This is my old one I got rid of around 2 years ago.

Having been in touch with the previous owner there’s a few new biggish issues to be aware of, although it has had a lot of other work done - valve stem seals and quaife LSD.

I'm guessing gearbox, maybe rear air suspension or electrical or the engine. What else is there?

What I know...

Thud going into reverse, and generally not feeling right. It had a rebuild on around 80k after the common E clutch went on it, I don’t think it was a full rebuild, more fixing what was wrong. Having said that, it was faultless whilst I had it.

Using about 2 litres of coolant a week, but with no apparent leaks? Also maybe related, drives side blowers only blow cold air..

But as said, positives of work done are... stem seals, quaife, I did the air suspension, timing chain seals, coolant transfer pipe, boot loom, facelift lights.

Having said that, the dealer selling it now may have rectified all the faults.

Makes the two I WAS going to look at today seem positively overpriced!
Had car trouble on the way up, so no viewings until the end of the month.

We wish you good fortune, good luck and bid you farewell.

Just replaced my rear brake lines and a front coil spring - otherwise still going well.

However it's not a popular car in my household (creature comforts of newer vehicles preferred!) so is rarely used - might have to go to eBay soon frown

What creature comforts do they feel are missing?

To be fair; I enjoy my heated seats but as long as the radio works - I'm good to go!

In truth, I don't think there's a lot in it in terms of mod cons - but a raised driving position and general new-erness (2005 vs 2011) means the other car is generally preferred.

It's just me who values the driving experience (plus better stereo and heated steering wheel).

Nah - In it for the love! These are far more interesting than the turbo cars!

I'm still on the fence. I have a 335i touring and i cant decide which is better. They're different.

Apples and pears - would you prefer a 350i over both?

Still loving mine after the first few months ownership, although I do fancy something a bit fruitier on the exhaust front. Need to sort the active cruise fault first though, don't know if it's a case of realigning the sensor or replacing it just yet....

Got chatting to a guy in a 550i saloon a few weeks ago. He had a powerflow exhaust on his and said its a bit noisey. Can we just gut one of the boxes like the m3 guys do?

I had a custom exhaust built waaaaaaay back in this thread!

Fruity when you boot it; quiet on the motorway!

Wasn't cheap ~£1k but it's great!

I'm looking at this tomorrow, can anyone tell me anything about it, or am I about to make a huge error!

Have that in my watch list; great spec and price Vs. mileage.

Definitely look for any leaks, listen for any creaks and make sure it drives straight and true and all the electrics work.

Have a good look through the service history and check the brakes and tyres if you can.

Using the government MOT tool suggests it has had a bit of a hard life with respect to tyres: https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

There is nothing too worrying there but it may have been ragged a bit or owners haven't been great at looking after it.
Car belongs to me.

I can confirm in relation to the tyres issue the previous owner had 18” winter wheels that weee worn it now has a set of matching Kumho’s on.
As stated in advert I’ve owned it twice & I had a message from Dom9 previously when I initially owned it in 2015 if he recalls.

The car had no smoke issues or leaks of any kind.
More than happy for anyone to inspect & looking forward to Paul’s viewing towards the end of the month.

God; I don't remember that at all!

It has been a busy few years, mind you! Maybe that was when I bought the touring?!

Seems a good price for the spec and it's still in my watch list... the touring has been great but it was bought with the dog in mind, primarily, and she won't sit in the boot... so a good spec saloon seems like a better option in many ways!

Think we'll be going SUV next though...

Greetings all

I picked up a 545i se touring yesterday. I'm an extremely lucky boy - mate of mine couldn't bear to part exchange it for a derisory sum, so has very generously given it to me.

It's done 150k but still drives brilliantly. Drove down from North Yorks to London yesterday - lots of snow so couldn't really welly it (much) but the cabin was a lovely place to be.

I appreciate that such a beast does not come niggle free, and I have a small war chest to keep the old girl on road. I want to use this forum to log work done on it. Be interesting to record the experience of keeping her going over next 2-3 years.

The car is generally in fantastic condition and has lot of toys (that I'm in process of discovering) It has a few minor foibles that need sorting over next few months - as I'm planning a French trip in July.

Will post pics etc when the snow has cleared.

They're pretty tough. I'd expect the old girl to keep on trucking. No one on here has got rid due to serious problems. Mostly due to boredom or wanting a change. We've had one cracked block which was major obviously but he had that fixed and is still trucking.
