And she's gone, at last.
Sorry for your loss Did my first engine oil/filter and air filter change on the car over the weekend, first time I've done it on a BMW and I do love the little drain bolt on the filter housing - simple but great bit of engineering. Cleanest I've ever been after an oil change (far too used to working on old Japanese cars where the filter is normally located horizontally somewhere that means spilling old oil over half of the engine block ).
The old filter element was well and truly cooked though, so brittle that it snapped in two as I was removing it (did at least look intact prior to that though); is that normal?
I'll not be sticking to the BMW CBS intervals going forward in any case, I don't trust oil to last for that long!

Collapsed/brittle oil filters are common if you leave them past 10k miles. Also more common with cheaper filters (best ones are gen BMW/Mahle/Mann.)Did my first engine oil/filter and air filter change on the car over the weekend, first time I've done it on a BMW and I do love the little drain bolt on the filter housing - simple but great bit of engineering. Anyone have problems with theirs shimmying when braking?
From high speed mine seems to grab slightly on the front right then left rear before pulling up straight.
I don't think there's anything particularly untoward it's just fricking disconcerting.
Should add brakes and pads all in good condition, tyres (P6's) almost new and it's only done c.80k miles.
Suggestions please guys as to cause and anyone to take it to in the Thames Valley?
I am tempted to take it to Southampton Wheel Alignment Centre for a tracking check as Nick really knows his stuff...
TIA, Pewe.

Mine had judder under braking since I had it as explained earlier which was fixed with new rear discs. From high speed mine seems to grab slightly on the front right then left rear before pulling up straight.

Shortly after I got it I had new rear bushes and this firmed up the rear end. They were allowing movement at the rear which was causing it to feel a bit wayward. I didn't notice the waywardness until it was fixed and then realised it felt more planted.
That's nice. I really wish I earned more money. I'd have that on the drive double quick. Well I dont have a drive but you understand. Hopefully it doesn't sell for at least a few months and I manage to land some form of windfall payment from somewhere. Although to be honest I'd be considering downsizing again to an e91 possibly 3l straight 6 normally aspirated and manual box. I'm not sure why I even have these thoughts because I never drive this car as it is. I did manage get an American fridge in the back of it but no pics unfortunately. No way you'd get anything so big in a 3er that's for sure.

Could well be bushes as the indie inspection I had done before purchasing it last year advised some wear in that direction.
Cheers, Pewe
A little aside as mine's an E64, but I'm keen to find out the common leaks on the N62. I have my engine out and will obviously do the valve stem seals, likely head gaskets too.
Where are the other common leaks? It's done 98k miles and I want it to be good for another 100k+ and ideally more given that (apparently) some of the materials engineering has improved!
Is the crankshaft seal necessary to replace? I'll do the valve cover and lower / bottom sump cover gaskets.
Oh - and the valley pipe of course. This is getting pricey!
