Let us know how you get on with them. New front discs and pads arrived for mine this week, hopefully I’ll fit them over the weekend

I did mine last year and turned out the discs I had bought were wrong. Tried to return then but had then for almost 12 months so they refused. I still have them somewhere and should really try and sell them but no idea what car they fit. Spent about an hour trying to get the caliper on before I gave up. So frustrating having to put the car back together when its not fixed. I went with the 2 piece discs and EBC yellows.

I put on the new front discs and pads yesterday evening, just in time before the miserable weather over the next few days. One stubborn bolt apart, it went without problem.

Zimmermann discs - cost £190

Brembo pads - cost £57 (50% off from ECP)

Old discs lipped and very rusty

Forgot to take a picture of the new disc in place before putting the wheels back on!

I went with the 2 piece as they#re a big lighter. So mine have those little bobbles round the centre like your old ones. I think the central part is alloy and those bobbles attach that to the steel bit. Yours have err holes in.

amongst all the excitement today (new car and delivery of Perfectdraft machine), there is also sadness. The 550 has gone. Px’d it. So sad hearing it fire up for the last time and being driven away. They do sound good!

Might have to get a v10 next time I got an itch to scratch.

Think my alternator bracket seal has gone on my 545.

Anyone had any recent quotes for this work?

Gone but not forgotten Smash. You'll always be welcome here if you decide to pop by but please dont tease us poor v8 owners with stories about v10.

I’ve gone electric for the time being. Had an i3 until about a year ago, but i also had the 550. Now I got a LEAF and a stty Aygo, unfortunately Aygo still has about 16months to go on a 2yr pcp so couldn’t get rid of that.
Once the Aygo goes, I can start looking into something fun. Might scratch the TVR itch if I can find one at a reasonable price that hasn’t rotted away.

On another note, there is a guy on YouTube called M539.

On his channel he brings life to broken V12s from the nineties.

He has no ego and talks about the cars not himself.

Really recommend viewing.

Unsurprisingly my battery is struggling with lack of use save for the odd short trip to the supermarket. I hooked it up to a trickle charger this morning having had the low battery warning ping up

I put a new battery on mine.
Genuine bmw one off eBay 120 quid.
Took the old one off and it was dated 2017, this was last year eek

Anyway, put exactly the same battery on and my local dealer told me not to bother registering it because it was the same amp cranking power as the last.

You have to register it.

You don't have to code it if you are using the same spec., but you need to register there has been a new battery fitted for it to charge properly.

Thanks for the kick up the arse, I’ll get into that next week as my local dealer is back at work.

Maybe by Carly or bimmercode and do it yourself. You then have the app to diagnose and code things in the future too.

I was at costco the other day and paid 99.9ppl for regular stuff. Shame we're not going anywhere to use it, but I'll take that all the same. smile

My 545i had the alternator replaced before it came into my possession and I seem to remember it being a VERY expensive job. Issue with access and many belts. Anyway for some reason 1,200 quid sticks in my mind - I realise you are not needing the whole job done but might give you an idea that the impending damage is quite chunky. Sorry to be bearer of bad tidings etc.
