Lovely, but i am suprised at the redline sitting at 6k though, as I didn't realise these were so low revving.

My little maintenance overhaul type jobs continued tonight.

Engine oil now out. Oil filter I bought doesn't fit. Sump plug was very stiff. Considering a new one.

Radiator bottom hose I tried to remove from water pump end. Decided to remove all air intake to improve access. Still couldn't budge it. Not sure what to do next on this. Perhaps finding the drain in block. Considering removing the rad to either empty when off car or just replace it. Not sure i need to spend 200 quid on a rad just to make me feel good.

PCV removed from both banks. They don't look too bad but there was no real push from them. Will probably just replace them anyway. Need to buy these.

Vacuum pump definitely source of my oil leak. Didn't do anything on this as dont have star type sockets which are like the inverse of torx.

Even discovered the new jack points I bought are totally wrong too. More money wasted on stuff which doesn't fit.

So it seems I can't even buy the right bits.

Following ^^
Whilst I'm on anyone know if there's an upgrade on the HUD?
Mine has taken to working intermittently since it went into local Main Dealer for electrical bridge recall.
I remember seeing talk about an upgrade but blowed if I can find it.
TIA.

Getting there with the parts, ATM. Hopefully the PCV bits clear up some of the smoke.

I'm going to be renewing the rear suspension bags, and refurbishing the compressor on mine shortly (530d, don't ban me...)

I can get the bags from eBay for £47. Does anyone have any experience with these, and I assume they are the same for SE & M Sport suspension?

And any experience with the suspension compressor repair kit, I'm currently looking at this one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-X5-E70-Air-Suspensi...

My car has done 140k miles, I've owned it since 60k, and occasionally it throws the level control failure warning so it wouldn't hurt to refresh the air suspension

I dont think the bags will be the same. Surely the sport is a bit lower and a bit stiffer? The lower ride height could be achieved with just software setting but it would still be as soft as the se. Not sure about that.

I hoping the snake oil does the bulk of the heavy lifting. I want to pull the pipes to these PCV as well and see if they are not bunged up. I've seen an E65 750i on ebay with blue silicone hoses replacing these little breather pipes. It made me think.

I thought that as well - realOEM gives two different part numbers, of which the eBay bags state both! So I'm none the wiser.

I could buy from BMW, but I'd rather just get the eBay ones if they work just as well

Please; don't buy eBay specials.

Stick with the decent brands like Arnott and Aerosus; the eBay ones are cheap for a reason!

Not sure; haven't looked into the E61s in much detail as I own an E39

Ask them though; they'll soon confirm, both are very good to deal with re customer service etc

You could cross ref the parts on www.realoem.com too FYI

  • Edit: looking ion here; they're NOT sided:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Arnott-Rear-Air...

RTGroup are great resellers too; very helpful when it came to replacing the Mtech suspension on my E39 touring with the correct Sachs shocks etc

Again I know this is E39 related; but it's all about the rear bags for tourings; makes a good read and you can see they go for Arnott in the end also:

Cheers. After looking at the Aerosus site, I'm tempted just to go the whole hog and get a new compressor, valve, filter, relay and bags for £450

As said, I’d go Arnott over Aerosus, but each to their own smile
