^^Very nice. cool

I'm hoping the N62TU isn't as crap as all the US YouTube folk make out as I've just bought an E70 X5 4.8 for the wife. *fingers crossed*
Thanks, and no it's not. I know 'Hoovie' bought a shed of a car and then was surprised it was knackered.... they just need to be looked after and one of the biggest problems with B5's and B7's is the wrong oil filter being fitted (even BMW dealers get it wrong and fit the 'base' car part from reading the OBD old BMW VIN number) rather than the finer one the supercharged engine needs based on the Alpina VIN. This results in the charger getting taken out over time which may also take out the cooler or other bits depending on how quickly it is stopped when it lets go. Most owners I know of either use a specialist for servicing or even supply the parts to their local garage to fit.

Those V8 X5's sound like thunder, I've got a mate with a 4.6 previous gen' one. I had a normal E70 X5 40d as my daily before my current 640d and they are a nice place to be so only enhanced by the noise yours makes. Enjoy
Hoovie seems to be very 'unlucky' when it comes to cars. I'll make sure I do annual oil changes (regardless of miles), keep an eye on things and hope for the best!

Interestingly I've found the V8 in the E70 fairly muted tbh. Not sure if they've made an intentional effort to quieten it down as the E70 is definitely considered a much more premium/luxury product than the E53 (which as you mention has quite a raucous rep in V8 form).

I still fancy an X5 4.8is but I am a bit anti SUV although the original X5 is more E39/E38 if you ask me and they were really well screwed together cars. And yeah they sound absolutely awesome.
E53 seems to have quite a bit shared with the E46/E39 etc. Interior/dash pretty much the same. I think they look best in facelift form. Was tempted by one (notably cheaper than the E70 and much more likely to find one with a 3.0 petrol engine) but did feel it was a step backwards compared to our E91 and E63.

Hoovie is just looking for views so buys basket cases on purpose. The problem is that these videos then become reported as fact or give cars a 'repuation'. Fair play he is doing well at what he does as a YouTuber, but it's like these TV 'reality' shows that purposely look for drama.

I started reading this thread from the beginning, now up to page 35, some interesting chat on here so will do the rest.

I found the bit where the LHD B5 owner posted some pics and it was the one I thought was in the UK so now I have pics of all 4 over here - must be due some sort of beardy award, maybe a new anorak smile

Looks like a decent spec. Mentions heated seats in the advert, though I can't see the buttons?

Definitely no factory heated seats, they are not in the spec list.

Bar the fact it will be completely pissing out oil, that's nice. Sort of thing I'd want to buy and sort the oil leak on. Shame it's such a pain to sort on these engines.

This!

That is not a looked after car; absolutely filthy inside and out; owned by someone who clearly doesn't care about it/lost all interest in it

I mean it takes 30mins to give it a quick hover and wipe down inside and a quick wash outside to make it look presentable...

Wouldn't touch that with a bargepole

Further evidence of that - I just looked up the MOT history. No fails but numerous years of advisories of tyres on limit and brake pads on limit so clearly run on a shoestring and also only 20 days MOT left with the advisory 11 months ago being for the oil leak at 182k miles and now on 189k so another 7k miles since.

To quote a certain film........Run Forest, Run....

In tidy working condition its maybe a 5 grand car. Not sure because of the 189000 miles. I've read his comments before about pulling big loads with this so read into that what you will. High mileage cruising up and down the motorway is very different to high mileage dragging 3 tonnes around.

Mondeo Man the owner does frequent these forums so I'm not sure if he will chip in. Some people like buying fixer uppers and by definition these are always a bit tatty because owners have given up on them. Finding pristine 2nd hand cars is difficult enough but finding pristine fixer uppers is basically impossible.

One of the best examples that has appeared in the last 6 months (besides some of the Japanese imports, but they aren't to everyone's market).

LCI, average milage (115k), FBMWSH, with nice combo of carbon black with beige interior. Not sure if it has pro nav though...

Another '07 carbon black e61 550i but this time a pre-facelift. One owner and only 47k miles though. Probably a fair price for that provenance / mileage?

Good spot - didn't read the detail. Not necessarily a bad thing? Explains the non-facelift on an '07 though I guess.

I had a jap import e39. The bottom of the car was cleaner than the top. So yes there are benefits. But there are also downsides which are not necessarily obvious. My e39 had paint lacquer damage from the sun. It also had faded interior parts again from the sun. It also had perished rubbers on all windows again.....from the sun. So I would suspect suspension bushes can get all dried up and nasty too. Just imagine keeping your car in a hot oven for 15 years and you can imagine the damage that might be caused.

Also no real way to check the history even if there is a folder with it unless you speak Japanese...
