Nice review but pig awful example of the breed IMO. Pre-LCI with LCI gear lever bodge, poor bodykit, M5 wannabe quad pipe exhaust, the list goes on!

The beauty of the 550i is its Q-car appeal - something completely lost in this example…

Fully agree.. Worth highlighting though...

Looks like the mods were done in Japan which isn't uncommon. Doesn't mean they're good...

Quad exhaust isn't bad. But the bodykit is gash

Wheels are fugly too unfortunately...

I'd love an LCI 550I touring. They never crop up unfortunately

All just styling tweaks. Engine and box unchanged.

Yup; and that's what I prefer... For me, the LCI looks better inside

It's only the newer infotainment that gets me excited.

Now listed on eBay:

Can't see it selling for that, sorry

Anyone in their right mind would want that god awful kit removed and wheels changed...

But it'll appeal to some as it is...!

All that blurb about how he's part of the UK Car club but still fits stty budget tyres to a car like that...

That'd make me start asking questions straight away!

The awful plate and the grille stripes also detract from what seems otherwise a nice example.

I spotted one of the low mileage Jap imports in white today, at my son's school. It looked very modern in white.

You're not wrong, the sales pitch was OTT but when will you see another low mileage example like this appear in manual? I've been looking for 7 years and this is the first I've seen advertised that hadn't been butchered.

The budget tyres certainly weren't a turn on but there will be a full set of PS4s on there before long.

And in response to the other post - the original grilles are going back on and that splitter will be leaving shortly after, the plate won't be far behind.

Can't say those were deal breakers for me, easily fixed...

Ah ha - so you bought it. I was wandering if it would turn up here.

That sounds like an excellent planned to-do list. Post some pics once she's all correct smile

Welcome to the club.
Mines about as bog standard as you can get for a two owner car.
The only real mod is a cat back stainless exhaust from The Exhaust Company, Newbury to release some proper V8 noise.
Josh will make it as quiet or as fruity as you want.
My request to him was no more than 100db and not to wake the neighbours, which he succeeded in doing for what then cost £550.
I have moved the electronics in the spare wheel well into the void behind the left rear wheel arch to reduce the risk of them water logging (no re-wiring required, just ensure the wires don't chafe when you've re-routed them).
It also means I now have a get-you-home spare in the well.
Depending on where you live there are three of us meet up occasionally near Wokingham for a coffee and natter. PM me if interested.

Thanks for the tips, will look into those.

As far as meet ups go I'm based in the South West so it's unlikely but appreciate the offer all the same.

Is yours a manual pewe?

One thing I can't find anywhere, perhaps it's never even been published/identified, but how many E61 550i exist in RHD with a manual box? I noticed someone on another thread quoted 7 ever made.

Can anyone confirm if this is the case or would I need to contact BMW to get the definitive answer? How many left only goes so granular, and it doesn't go that far from what I can see.

Albeit an E60 which I had I take my hat off to anyone persevering with these. They are good cars on their day but everything that can, and in my experience does go wrong, you need the time and skill on the spanners for these to make any sense.

Either that or your bury your head in the sand until they break or fail a MOT.

Not sure what you're talking about. I started this thread with my E61 550i. It has been a great car. Only let me down once when expansion tank cracked - common fault. Dumped all its coolant 200 miles away from home. Car now 17 years and 120,000 miles. Not bad for an old car if you ask me. Did you have a diesel?

I bought a 70k mile e60 with fsh in good condition for £6k it cost me that again in 18 months and was still far from right. You win some you loose some but to think these cars aren’t a massive gamble is delusional.
