The E46 325ti Appreciation Thread
Discussion
[quote=OJH30]Hi guys, here are some pics of my 2001 325ti. I spent a long time looking for a nice low mileage ti and found this one, it now has 54500 miles on the clock and has had a very spoilt life! Earlier this year I spent a lot of money replacing and upgrading all of the e46 weak points as well as belt/oils/bushes/breathers/pulleys, it wasn't cheap! Unfortunately I may now have to sell it due to job relocation but it's a great car and always puts a smile on my face

Welcome to the thread!
Lovely looking example you have there so I hope you are able to keep it.
In the event you do have to sell please would you PM me with some details when you advertise it - mine is on 99K miles and I would be interested in one that will give me years more service. They just don't make cars like this any more!

I don't know what they cost on these, but yeah I'd say its always better to replace a caliper once its started sticking, a good clean and some new fluid flushed through might be a temporary fix that lasts a while. I'll see what condition its in and the discs and pads too before i decide. If the wheel is getting at all warm compared to the other side after 10 of 15 minutes on the motorway its probably a sign, once I tiwgged what to was i could actually feel it dragging at slow speeds too.
I had the front right replaced about 10k miles ago. The other three are original 86k items... Max M4X WW said:
Has anyone fitted a '545i' shifter? Not sure if I should go for one of those or something even shorter.
Yeah I have. It's awesome. You can go even shorter, but the 545i shifter with stubby M sport knob is about an inch or so shorter in height and about 30% shorter in throw. Makes for some really nice, crisp shifting. Make sure you get a replacement bush as well, I had to destroy mine to get the shifter lever out. JakeT said:
My front left seized at 88k. For the sake of it, I'd just fit a new caliper. They look nice behind the wheels too, all shiny.
Yeah they look lovely, but the one that's acting up is the one that got replaced not all that long ago. I'm wondering if the mechanics fitted a cheap low-quality caliper if it's only lasted a little over a year. HugoFastmann said:

Not totally sure its the case here, but a lot of OE fit stuff at least used to have caliper pistons which were hard chromed. New cheap stuff as a plain steel piston that starts rusting immediately.
Ah damn, hope that's not the case with what I've got. Maybe time for a BMW Performance upgrade...HugoFastmann said:

Sounds great, do you have the part numbers by chance? I already have a Clubsport knob.
25117546373 Shift Selector Rod 25111220600 Shift Bearing
25111220439 Plastic Washer (4) Some say you do not need these
25117571899 Securing Clip (2) If you lose one or both, it is good to have these

What foam are we talking about? #8? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BM71-...
I need some coilovers too, car is used occasionally on the road but mainly to drive to track days. Need to be under £750. Looking at HSD Dual, HSD Mono, BC (whatever the cheap ones are) and Yellow Speed (as used on M3 Cup) Any thoughts?
Cheers

I run HSD mono's with 12kg springs for my track car, have to say I find them fantastic, on road they are pretty stiff. However I only drive it to the track and back so I can live with it.
Sounds good, is your car pretty sorted? Am wondering if I can get away with the cheaper ones.Max M4X WW said:

It's got the M54B30 in it, so it's a 330ti now, and stripped with 2 x buckets and 330i brakes all around with PFC pads, I enjoy it on track and lets me learn how to handle a RWD car better.Mgd_uk said:

I can't see what #14 is now as RealOEM is down but if its only a few quid I will get one!

No rubbing yet, but its sitting very high as the tyres are smaller than factory and the suspension is stock.
