Went to change the auxilary belt and aircon belt on mine today. The aux belt went on easily but the aircon belt wasa no go even with the tensioner bottomed right out and me trying to lever the belt over.
I thought I'd been given the wrong one at Euro Car Parts. The ContiTech replacement is marked as a 5pk865 belt and the ETK lists an 863mm belt, so should have been slightly larger than needed.
Everything looks original on the car. I was wondering if a different tensioner had been fitted with a bigger wheel or not enough movement to allow the belt to slip on. Its about the only thing I can think off unless the ETK is wrong and it should be a bigger belt.
Anyone working on the car and can have a peek at what the aircon belt is marked as ?
Thanks

Will be under mine tomorrow finishing off the LSD swap.
If all goes well, I may also be fitting an M3 cab front antiroll bar, so should be able to have a look tomorrow if it’s marked up.

I drove mine today for the first time since February. Still fantastic, and the A/C still blows ice cubes out of the dash. :sunglasses:

Now tucked back in the garage before the thunderstorms come.

I had a wicked time yesterday at the Circuit Days / Bridge to Gantry Nurburgring Trackday. 20-odd laps in a single day and for the most part the car performed flawlessly - I overheated a coil pack at lunch time resulting in it running on five - giving it a chance to cool down and then dispensing with the engine beauty cover was all it took to resolve that for the rest of the day.

An open pitlane trackday at the Nurburgring where you can run lap after lap is such a different experience to Touristenfahrten - Going under the bridge at 140mph, 6000rpm in fifth is something else! I'll be booking onto next Aprils as soon as it becomes available.

I'll try and get some videos up in the next few days. I've got a great bit of footage where I let a brand new Exige through just before the Karussell (after he'd reeled me in up Kesselchen) then stuck to his rear bumper right the way back to the Dottinger Hohe cool

Slightly jealous.
Mines nearly ‘finished’ and am heading over to spa the ring in a few months.
I know it’s not what it’s really about, but was you timing?
I know these aren’t sub 8 cars, but still intrested none the less.

I knew I spotted you there! Saw the blur of a Compact and thought I recognised the plate. I was there with a few mates Friday - Tuesday. Glad you had a good time and the Compact served you well! They seem to love them over there, saw lots of them dotted about.

looking good :-) I'm there Fri-Mon this coming bank holiday, will be taking the compact but unlikely to do any laps in it.

Quick question, I'm fitting an AUX lead into my 2003 car in the next couple of days, I thought this knocked out use of the cd changer but a how to vid I saw the other day shows the aux plugs in next to the cd changer plug on the head unit rather than instead of..

Can anyone confirm if my cd changer will or won't work after the aux install?

Yours should have a slot on the back for the aux cable so you keep the auto changer.

Made the mistake of letting Mrs e30m3 borrow the Compact yesterday, whilst I used her T5 van. When she came home she remarked on how nice it was to drive and how it makes a good noise!

Just went to go out and it appears she's taken it for a 2nd day running!

The AUX cable plugs into the slot next to the cd changer rather than instead-of.
What radio do you currently have fitted?
My 2003 car came with a business radio cassette & cd changer, none of the cassette players are compatible with AUX.

Not long swapped the radio out for an alpine business cd that is compatible with aux inputs imported from the states.

If that had been a manual I would have been sorely tempted - facelift, fantastic colour combination and hardly used!

But sadly it's still an auto. frown

If you stripped one to the bare bones it'd be an 8 min car all day long. I did a 8:31.13 with a full interior (but lightweight buckets) and the AC on! It weighs ~1350kg full of fuel without a driver. I reckon you could get that down to 1200kg but the drive there would be miserable!

That was achieved with 245/45R17 Dunlop Direzza DZ03Gs, ST XTA coilovers with some custom spring rates (Targeting 2Hz ride frequency front and rear - do the maths)... Oh and an M54B30! That extra 500cc really makes itself felt up Kesselchen - I was actually accelerating unlike last year with the 2.5 where I was slowing down by the top!

Here's a video of that lap:
https://youtu.be/LdZM1JEuF6c

I'm pretty happy with how mine works now. Make brakes are trashed now so I'll fit some 330i brakes front and rear shortly. After that the only things I want to do are a neat sunroof delete panel and an LSD.

Well yes, in some ways I am!

When I was in the mood to rag it a bit it was great! My E91 is better for when I just chill as it's more refined, but if my mood changes although it feels capable enough it isn't quite as chuckable.

Still when we had the recent heatwave I sorted that by using my E86 - it feels like a Compact on steroids (so not at all bad)! I just need to decide on my mood before I go out!

But if I could find a good manual facelift Compact Sport with sunroof, HK stereo, auto-lights and wipers I'd be sorely tempted!

And here's a me chasing a 2016 Lotus Exige after letting him through shortly before the karussell: https://youtu.be/tAFwnzPhTXk

And another chasing a Caterham. I was clearly only staying with him because of his gearing - as soon as he hit ~110mph I started reeling him back in again: https://youtu.be/p1iQxJORNmU
