Blimey, what's the mileage on yours? Are the MOT readings high?
Mileage is close to 140k, you would never believe it to drive it, except if you checked the oil afterwards I will dig through old MOTs when I get back from holiday, next MOT is early January. Not sure that there is much that can be done about it short of a rebuild. Given that replacement engines are cheap (599 quid from Quarry Motors, less than that elsewhere) I don't see the point in worrying.

Welcome to the madhouse! If you really want one it might be worth setting up some alerts - I got a deposit on mine the same day it got put on AutoTrader as I was the first caller!
And it keeps me entertained every time I drive it - fantastic car!
When (if?) my 325 engine dies a 330 replacement would be top of my list of enhancements! (Only because I couldn't afford to run it if I put an S54 in it)!

Yours sounds like it may need some attention, maybe CCV replacement? - but they are worth it!
Looking that way.I am also getting some clutch-slip so might well combine the jobs and get a quote of the local bmw spanner man.
When doing the CCV most appear to change all the pipework as well and rack up £100 parts bill. Its that strictly required?

Just wondered what MPG you guys are getting? My Mrs said she's averaged about 35mpg. (I assume she means the Compact)

I was advised to replace it all, as rough running can ensue if the old stuff is a bit tired. It was just a job worth doing right and mine is certainly all the better for it.

On average I get late twenties, but that is a relatively short commute to work and some blasts to clear its throat. On a good run I've seen mid to high thirties without really trying so certainly attainable. If she is doing short journeys and getting 35 then she must have a lot more mechanical sympathy than my Mrs!!Just wondered what MPG you guys are getting? My Mrs said she's averaged about 35mpg. I do mostly longer runs when I use mine (30+ miles each way) off-peak, and a few short trips in between.
Over the 8,000 miles I've done the OBC is reading 33.5 mpg but my (sad) Excel spreadsheet is showing 30.9, although it's currently got 3/4 of a tank but I got it on empty!
My nephew has a facelift, but does mostly short journeys with it and must be driving it like he stole it - his OBC was on 22ish last time I saw him!

Changed the CCV yesterday along with a full service, what fun on Christmas Eve! It's not a complex job but it is very fiddly, requiring patience and a strong back when connecting all the pipework to the CCV. I would certainly advise replacing the pipework too as the originals get brittle and chopping them does make life easier when removing. I bought the kit of parts from ebay, perfectly acceptable quality: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270924670853?_trksid=p20...
It took me about 6 hours all in, a pro could probably halve that time. Too early to tell if it has cured the oil consumption, but the vacuum present when the engine is running and the oil filler cap is removed is still present (normal?).
Cheers, Dave

I'll be interested to see what this sells for, has a lot going for it -

Nice colour and sunroof but I paid less than the reserve for a similar one 3 yrs ago. They seem to be holding/increasing in price http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141863056160?_trksid=p20...
It looks like I may be bidding a fond farewell to mine. She's a black facelift 2004 M-sport 6-speed, with a tan leather interior, 89k, staggered MV2's and the magic parcel shelf with umbrella!
I replaced the radiator, waterpump, thermostat, coolant, coolant reservoir and belts as a precaution in April. Am going to give the paint a good detail then stick it up online.
They seem strange to buy and sell - that one above seems a bit of a bargain to me?

Mine sailed through it's MOT today. Well, almost, for some reason the number plate lights are not working any more, so I have to fix that. The complicated stuff is all good though!
Did a couple of quotes and I don't think it is economical to upgrade the engine to a 3.0, insurance goes through the rood, and the specialists won't touch me because I spent four years living in the Netherlands (they require 5 years residence in the UK, for some reason). Might treat the old girl to a new front bumper though, the old one is pretty ratty
