In most applications B6 and B8 are the same damping rate, just the B6 is set up for standard or light lowering, the B8 more aggressively lowered, e.g. 40+mm

B4 are perfect for a road car imo, and cope well with light amounts of lowering too.

an update to the ongoing fuel sender saga, 1/4 is now empty and anything above half a tank doesnt register until the power is cycled at least twice.
Going to get some second hand senders that work but no guarantee they fix the problem if its an issue with the cluster?
Any ideas

So this question has been ask a number of times and normally receives the response "no point or buy a 330 or an M3", but assuming i like my compact and want to keep it what is worth doing to up the power on the 325ti. From what i can find a remap, and a catback exhaust is worth doing. The jury is still out on if K&N and the like knacker your maf with oil of not but mine doesn't seem to have caused any problems (yet). I don't want to swap the engine or spend silly money but it would be nice to hit 60 in 2nd. Who's tried what and what has worked (or not)

Sorry to say it, but the most effective mods are an engine swap or a diet... Any budget restriction?

Yes, to get significant performance gains I think you need to start with an engine transplant. Or remove some weight.

I suppose you could change the diff to get to 60 in 2nd but the reason the 325ti doesn't manage that is to improve it's overall performance, even if it doesn't help the 0-60 time!

Hello all,

I'm not one for forums in general but I've been following this thread for a while. I think a 325ti ticks all the boxes for what I need from a car. I'm going to see 2 at the weekend.

First curveball question; Does anyone here use their compact to carry mountain bikes? I've got an unusually long bike and I need a way to keep it on the inside for security at work etc. It just sticks way out the tailgate on every normal hatchback I've tried it with.

That's pretty much the only level of 'practicality' I require. I'll probably remove the rear seats as I go down the lightweight route.

Also if anyone has a nice example for sale in easy reach of Sheffield I'll add you to my viewing list. Many thanks.

There is a thread somewhere here of a purple compact that was pictured carrying mountain bikes in the boot.
Rear seats fold flat and removing the parcel shelf leaves ample room.

Its just a run around that does the odd trackday so didn't really want to spend out on an engine swap, especially as the current one only has 85,000 on it. I have removed some weight but maybe see what else i can remove. So without swapping out the engine i am really limited to a remap (maybe 10 bhp and better response) and an exhaust (maybe another 2/3 bhp and a bit of weight)

Honestly I think remaps on 99% of NA engines are a waste of money.

I'd be thinking about firming up various bushes and suspension items, losing some weight (buckets maybe?) and maybe some driver tuition (if you want to go faster, the answer is always more tuition smile)

Thanks, i'll maybe just try and tighten the chassis and change the exhaust (standard is just too quiet) I assume as noone has jumped in that few have bothered remapping, or have not notice much difference if they have.

Replaced the main fuel sender today in the hopes that it starts reading correctly, i now know both fuel senders are functional and if it runs out at a 1/4 tank again i think the jet pump may be inop? Does anyone know if you can hear the jet pump prime on ignition like the main pump? I certainly couldn't.

The EU4 RHD map should work, but I'd want a good dump of the original config saving somewhere in case of a nightmare. Would save a lot of faffing with the other modules of course, I assume the wiring is identical?

Wiring will be the same. It should run on the 2.5 software, the older M52s would run a 2.8 on the 2.5 software.

Yes the wiring is identical, I haven't completed the swap yet but just wanting to make sure I'm prepared for everything when I next get a few days off work. I stripped the donor car the other week and have done all the usual stuff to the engine while its out (gaskets, vanos seals, coolant lines, ccv etc), I have read it will run on the 2.5 map but possibly throw the odd lean code. I have the DME/EWS/locks/keys from the 330i but with it being an auto figured its probably easier to flash the 3.0 map on the current DME.

Mine ran perfect on standard dme after I converted to 3.0 but had another dme mapped for higher rev limiter and apparently more power then standard 3.0 .
Why not flash the spare auto dme and delete immobiliser so you can fall back on the standard one if it don’t work.
