Ex Police E60 service history
Discussion
Hi all,
I have a 2006 E60 530D which used to be used by Essex police as an unmarked patrol vehicle. The only service history I have is a spreadsheet which is mostly tip-exxed out. I know that it has been very well cared for, and I strongly suspect that the engine has been changed as it looks and feels too new to have done 240K miles. Is there any way for me to find out if the engine is new?
Much appreciated as always

It would seem that yours will have been out of service for a good while
Whilst in service they are maintained far above what normal cars are
However .. Expect every panel to have been damaged .. Most mechanical parts replaced (all oem)
They can be good buys .. But nowadays they are only disposed of when truly shagged
We used to say of ours " one owner original dashboard, if you are lucky"

Yes I can see that pretty much every panel has been replaced, but done well, and lots of mechanical parts. It also had two batteries.
The thing Im trying to get to the bottom of is the engine change, as it looks far too new. Obviously this has a significant effect on my cars value and servicing requirements. Ive checked with the DVLA, but if its been processed correctly (which I think the Police did), there isn't a record of the change.

Can you not check the engine number? Or are you thinking maybe a short engine swap only? The thing Im trying to get to the bottom of is the engine change, as it looks far too new. PS I'm sure you know already but check the swirl flaps have been removed
