Red Dakota Leather - Tacky?
Discussion
Looks like this is no longer going present an issue in my mind as I have been presented with the opportunity to own a rather lovely 225d in Melbourne Red for the same outlay. (With black interior fyi)
Thanks for everyone's thoughts on this. I reckon the grey/red combo will be back on the table if I can afford a 4 series in a few years time. Some of the 3 series' in this thread look fantastic.
P.s. Why on earth would anyone spec the coral red / estoril blue combo. Horrific!

Another vote in favour of Coral Red.
My current steer....Alpine White with Coral Red Z4....
And previous run-around......118d with Mineral Grey & Coral Red....
I think it does depend on the exterior colour and works best with black, white & grey but I've seen a good few Estoril Blue with Coral Red and that doesn't look too bad either.
Was the red handle an extra? Never seen that before! My current steer....Alpine White with Coral Red Z4....

I don't think I could be that brave to be fair, but I did like the red leather on my Z4M and I thought it went pretty well with the black exterior. I have never been a fan of black leather as I find it very bland but red or a lighter leather does lift an interior nicely, it's a shame Dakota leather has such a cheap look and feel to it though and I much prefer Nappa leather although it doesn't wear anywhere near as well sadly.

It is awful, isn't it? - can't believe BMW fob us off with it, even on a decent spec. 5 series.Mind you, Mercedes send E-Classes out with 'Artico' taxi spec. vinyl, at least Dakota is an improvement over that.

Whether it applies to all models I don't know, but even BMW won't allow Coral Red leather on an Estoril blue exterior anymore (certainly on a 4 Series...)
Glad to hear it - it does look utterly ste IMO. They have to protect buyers against their own poor taste. Coral Red with a grey or black car looks fine to me though, and only a little like a midlife crisis.335d said:

Just tried it and looks like it is still available on the configurator. It just removes the Estoril interior dashboard trim (which should be removed anyway IMO). I don't think Estoril and Coral work together at all, but horses for courses I guess...
I didn't do it in the end - went for a 5 series in Mediterranean and Oyster / Black instead. But the Estoril / Coral GC was very tempting.Tacky? Try height of sophistication! I recently decided to take up BMW on some of the promotions they are currently running and thought if they could get me out of my 2013 320i (with a heavy residual) with no cost and into a new 3 series, I would be quite pleased. They did and I was about to settle for a special they were running which meant a color and spec (320i sport) ..... which while admittedly beautiful wouldn't have been my first choice. Cue music: and then I saw it, from across the room: The 220i convertible, sport line, mineral metallic white with the coral red interior! It was love at first sight. Generally, I tend to be the conservative preppy type and shy away from garish colors, etc. I can assure you, this red leather interior is a new spin on an old classic and though sporty, hip and strong has an air of established sophistication.

Had it on 4 cars. Love it.
If you want to be a boring fart then get black
Yup, it certainly makes a change from black, which just looks cheap in my opinion. Don't worry about resale, its a rare choice - but for example, Id never buy a car with black leather which means I have to disregard 90% of the options available and wait for the right spec to come along, be it red/tan/coral!If you want to be a boring fart then get black
