Hi.

My dad just got his new F10 5 series today, and noticed that the on-board computer in the idrive is showing 35 more miles than the trip computer and milometer. Is this normal ? Seems v odd to me ?

Was wondering if maybe the dealer has cheekily taken off some miles before delivery ?

Friend of mine mentioned that on some older mercs, it was possible for dealers to reset the mileage lower as long as the car had less than 200 miles on the clock.

Anyone experienced the same ? Or have any info/views that might help to explain it ?

The trip computer mileage on iDrive 5 can be set per trip (either auto reset or it will continue since last reset). The onboard computer mileage is tied to the KOMBI (dash) mileage and these two can be reset via the button on the KOMBI. If I read your question correctly, then this is what you are seeing. So long as the proper accumulated total mileage (i.e. the main mileage) is greater than these then there is nothing untoward!

Basically, the iDrive has two independent methods of measuring mileage that the driver can reset and one method of displaying total mileage that cannot be reset (unless you're a scouser).

Thanks for the reply. The issue is that the main mileage is lower than the on-board computer mileage.

Maybe I will check in case the computer is showing mileage in km instead of miles ?

The computer also shows a time of 4.04 hours which seems a lot for a new car ?

Seem normal to me. I remember a guy at VW dealership setting my new car's milage to zero when I picked it up. He said there were 2 chances, but it had be be done before 100 miles. It was so people were not upset that there new car had mile on it from PDI, delivery etc.

You're getting yourself confused. If the dealer had actually reset it you wouldn't be able to tell without dealer level software. You're seeing the odometer (not resettable) and the trip computer (resettable).

I imagine the 35 miles are all PDI, moving around storages, long test drive etc. Some manufacturers/dealerships will reset this so the owner gets a '0' mile car but most will know that's impossible.

Everything is completely fine, don't worry about it.
