M2 M Performance Exhaust
Discussion
I don't have any first hand experience of optional exhausts on an/my M2 so can't help you there. The M Performance exhaust seemed waaaay too dear to me for just a back box so didn't option it in the end. If I was changing then I'd be splurging my money in a full Akrapovic system which isnt that much more to buy by all accounts. The Akra has an added benefit that it is worth something second hand, not sure if the M Performance silencer would be held in as high a regard? Or an Akra was considered this way back in my GT-R days...

The Akrapovic system is made of titanium and costs £2k more than the m performance system so it's probably only worth it if you buy all the other bits like bigger cats and remaps to get the full benefit.
I decided against the m perf exhaust as I just couldn't justify the cost for just cosmetic and auditory benefits as they claim no performance advantage. I've disconnected the exhaust valve on the standard exhaust (made sure the flap was open first) and the sound is pretty good, particularly in sport mode, so unless I hear the m perf exhaust and am totally blown away by the sound I'll spend my £2.5K elsewhere.

So, on the standard exhaust With the flap disconnected (and open) does the note still sound different between the driving modes then? Doing it this way reminds me of the DB9 my old man had - removed a fuse to disable the control of the flap - sounded great as it was open all the time!
The sound is different between comfort and sport, in sport mode the exhaust is more crackly and burbly on overrun.
I had a Vantage before with fuse 15 pulled so the flaps were open all the time and that was a lot louder so the M2 is quite sociable by comparison even with the flap open.

Take a look at this video to see how it's done https://youtu.be/5FuLBewO1b0
There is just one valve on the M2 on the near side.

Okay, ta for that. The vid gives a nice representation to the effect it will have. I took the following excerpt from the boys youtube video - so similar to the Aston's then but rather than pulling a fuse you just pull a connector.
"The exhaust valve mod involves opening the vales in sport plus mode and then shutting off the car to leave them open. You then disconnect the wiring harness from the valve actuators behind the outward exhaust tips. This prevents the M3 or M4 from closing the valves at all. They'll be open at all times. This mod will work on the F80 M3, F82 M4, or F83 M4 convertible all the same."
I found this video from the same boy detailing the plug locations on his M3 so looks easy enough...will give it a try me thinks

Hi i looked into all the after market exhausts as im in the trade and went for the m performance system as love the the little blutooth trick controller and the fit is fantastic, the carbon tips look awesome and does not effect your warranty.I intend to keep car for 2 years i paid around 1850 exc vat for the parts and i would be surprised if i couldnt get 750 for it in 2 years time. The sound is awesome i promise you and theres nothing quite like genuine bmw parts.I could not get anything from any other manufacturer near that price.

I've just had the M Performance exhaust fitted and trust me (especially in track mode) it's worth it. Especially if you're ok spending hundreds on PPF the exhaust is worth it. It's expensive but it's handy being able to have it in a normal mode and then beast mode. It's so loud in track mode, pops bangs, makes the car sound more aggressive. I was dubious whether it was worth it but trust me, it's worth it haha! You can only put it in track mode by pressing a button in the boot. Plus anything goes wrong you go back to bmw. It's cheaper than the akrapovic as well, especially if you ask them nicely for a discount. I've had both and the difference transforms the car into sounding a beast. A bit anti social in the full loud mode like haha. I would recommend to anyone that if they're looking at ones that cost similar money, go for the M performance one 😊
A cheaper option would be to fit a downpipe with a sports cat in it. There are several options: Fabspeed, Akrapovic, Richter and Milltek all do them.
As a bonus, you'll not only have a louder version of the standard exhaust, but a few more bhp too.

This may be a cheaper option but it could result in losing your warranty. I know what I would have on my M2.As a bonus, you'll not only have a louder version of the standard exhaust, but a few more bhp too.
