M235i - too complex!
Discussion
I dont understand the comfort closing - is this not meant to lock as as you step away>? I've watched it from 300 yards away unlocked with its wipers still going and the radio still on but the key in my pocket!
Can you get it to drop down several gears by holding a paddle down when in manual change mode? I cant!
Can you get it to fold its mirrors in when you lock and unfold when you unlock? Guess what..,. I cant!
Its been 2 months so have tried things in many ways and many modes!
Also, ahem, any way to get the stop start system to work only at red lights (useful) and not at junctions (where you often want to nip out without delay)! Found myself letting it crawl forward so as it wouldnt stop, or constantly fiddling with the STOP/START button - too much of a distraction. Not asking too much am I
Also anyone pulled a vac pipe for more growl or done the 'T' mod? Does it work on this?
Cheers

I've not used comfort access myself but the fact that wipers/radio are still on surely suggests the ignition is still on? Do you not have to do something before you get out to turn the ignition off fully?
Block changing several gears I think is a recent edition to the ZF8 gearbox software so might not happen depending on how new yours is.
Foldy mirrors on lock have to be set up / coded in I think
Stop/Start can be coded so it defaults to being off each time you start, rather than being on by default.
Golf Tee mod is a bit different on the F series cars I think http://babybmw.net/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=93099

Disclaimer - I have a 535 not a 235, but these things I think are generic BMW...
To lock the car, you have to touch the ribs on the top of the door handle. Walking away doesn't do it.
To fold the mirrors, hold your finger on the ribbed bit for a few seconds (or press the key for a few seconds) and the windows will go up and the mirrors fold. The delay can be reduced to 0 by coding.
Start/stop - just turn it off. You can code it so that the default is off.
Drop to the lowest gear - press the kickdown and left pull.
If all else fails, you could read the manual....

Thanks guys - will try some of that. My other car has an OFF/ON 'would you like us to fold the mirrors in when you lock the car sir' menu item. This thing with its 1000 item iPad menu just doesnt and needs 'coding' at the dealers? I can get it to open the b roof from 330 yards though or close the windows!
And thanks to the clever clogs' here - manual has been read a few times and many things Googled but it depends on your options, variant and software version PLUS local dealer coding which is why some of it just doesnt happen I guess. But then you knew that so thanks Ohh and I had a white Yugo - this tech numptie changed the head gasket on it in half an hour once whilst you sarcy geniuses were pushing mice and getting RSI LOL !

all you do to close is touch the door handle. On my X3 its a small 50p sized ridged part. To open you touch the whole handle. You're not meant to walk away and expect it to lock. What you might get though is the car detecting the key has gone, assuming owner has forgotten to lock and locking itself anyway. Wouldn't rely on that myself.
Thanks Ian - you sound like a kind person that wouldn't shout at people in an old people's home ;)
I Googled this and they suggest here http://f20.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79... comfort entry is to do with dropping the glass half way to help getting in? Well I'm not that unweildy & senile and no that doesnt work either.
This is the menu:
No buttons on door handle either...

Having no ribs on top of the door handle (the moving part, not the fixed to the door part) is the first giveaway combined with the fact my old 335i had exactly the same iDrive menu and it simply referred to how the car responds when you unlock the car using the key fob.
I've attached an image showing the ribs on my current X5

This - it's not "working" because you don't have it.Having no ribs on top of the door handle (the moving part, not the fixed to the door part) is the first giveaway combined with the fact my old 335i had exactly the same iDrive menu and it simply referred to how the car responds when you unlock the car using the key fob.
The iDrive option means the windows will drop half way when you unlock the car to make getting in to a tight space easier. My 2010 car has the very same.
The same is probably true for your mirrors, Power Fold is not a standard item but an option.
Did you buy the car from new and spec these?
Press the unlock button on the key twice in quick succession to activate Comfort Entry. I think you may be getting Comfort Entry and Comfort Access confused. The former, as stated above, drops the windows half way on coupes to aid getting in and out. The latter unlocks and locks the car without you needing to press the buttons on the key. If you don't have the ribs on the door handle you don't have it.

Don't have comfort access option.
On older models, like my 2011 E82 135i, both windows full drop on button hold press, which is a pain if raining....so I think this has been changed to be able to configure for drivers door only etc. in IDrive which is what you are seeing.
Again, do you have the power fold mirror option? Tiny button on the drivers door near mirror controls?
This is what you have to press to fold the mirrors in? It wasn't codable on older cars like the E82 to work on ignition/door locking etc., was manual button press only, so don't know if it's now a code-able option on F* series??

Comfort entry and 'full' comfort entry I'm done! Thanks for the pic mate. Seriously using the key fob button thing is no big burden!!!
Your car does not have the optional Comfort Access. You will need to lock the car using the remote FOB.The windows will descend half way so that it eases ingress into the car in a confined space - Being a pillar less coupe means that when the glass descends there is less door to manoeuvre yourself about to get in the car. If I remember correctly you press unlock on the remote three times on the remote and then when you pull the exterior door handle the glass will descend down and then when you close the door the glass will ascend.
Comfort entry just means you don't have to put a key in the ignition lock to start the car (which obviously your car does not have an ignition lock).
Ken, a lot of dealers have a BWM Genius on site who should be able to answer all your questions.
My old M135 used to leave the wipers and radio on and I found if you press the engine start button again once the engine was off everything would shut down (that was on a manual gear box version).

Didn't spec car personally - this is where the knowledge gap sets in I guess! It has 'driver comfort package' and folding electric mirrors via the small push button. Several have said elsewhere this can fold via the keyfob on lock - but it doesn't. That would be quite handy. This is what you have to press to fold the mirrors in? Thanks for your input guys - its now clearer than the terminology that I (well 'she') doesnt have the proximity keyless entry thing

We bought it miles away from our local dealer mate and based on the huge big throaty lump and RWD! I can't tell you of the joy when I see my missus' face when she comes home from work, takes of her helmet, and keeps going 'its amazing, and the steering is so light' () My old M135 used to leave the wipers and radio on and I found if you press the engine start button again once the engine was off everything would shut down (that was on a manual gear box version).
I'm parking all this software learning curves for now and thank you all so much for your help
