I think the total monthly cost inc warranty on a car like yours which still seems current is ok.
It starts to fall down on older metal. I had a 645 a couple of years back which although nice did seem a little out of date. So when I was faced with a decision like yours( 85k miles) I chose not to renew and changed cars shortly afterward.
It seemed to make more sense spending the money on a newer car rather than upkeep on an older one.
Love this OPs car only bought 9 months ago now it's basically too old so go buy another new one.

smile.

One thing I wish was possible let's say you buy a car from AUC BMW why can you not get a 3 year BMW warranty most people keep a car 3years so a logical frequency.

They can do it, 2 years is easier for them, but they can do 3. But even many of the sales guys don't know they can, so can be a bit of a battle.
It costs them around 50% of what it costs us too.

Interesting - I'll certainly be doing that next time 3 years worry free motoring from a used car.

I didn't say it was to old. Quite the opposite in fact!! The op car is still like currently available so worth the outlay. My old 645 wasn't.

Convincing them they can do 2 years (and that its worth their while even if you pay extra for it, as its 50% of the cost you'd pay!) can be hard enough though, let alone 3 years!

I did find this hard to get for the 535d but secured in the end.

Its worth a call to BMW to explain that you would like to continue with them, however the price structure is the limiting factor at this point, external 3rd party warranties as such are available at Cost £x... is there any way we can meet in the middle so to speak.

In short its worth a call.... maybe even pop into your local BMW and discuss it in personal with the manager etc.

I don't, because they won't, and then you have flagged with them your car will be over the mileage.

They will not budge from the terms, many have tried over the years and never heard of any success.

To confirm, you mean buying the mondial warranty whilst still covered under AUC prior to hitting 60k

They will not deviate from their terms and conditions, they are incredibly strict in this regard.

No point at all telling them you will be over by March, they will not bend the rules and they certainly won't rejig the price either.

Best bet apply 30 days before, this is allowed, and put down 56k miles or something, but consider if you need to go to the dealer before for any reason, if you do your mileage will be logged on BMWs system, so if you are due a service or something, maybe get it done early?

Whats the panic with 60k miles - if you check the classifieds these things are pushing 150k miles without issues. If the car is reliable enough why the issue with mileage? Dont mercs have unlimited mileage?

Hey it's boxing day party

The panic is the warranty more than doubles once passed 60k miles on BMWs.

Mercs extended warranty is just a rip off full stop imho. Far too expensive.

instead of buying the warranty why not save some money away. At least then you might never need to spend it, in which case you still have it. Not rocket science but the concept seems lost on many warranty-o-philes

This thread has really made me laugh, cheers.

But on a serious note, I bought a fairly new secondhand Nissan note 6 years ago for about £7k iirc. Maybe worth £3k now. I have spent £50 per year mot + £210 road tax + maybe £100 per year average on maintainence (I do myself so just parts).

So depreciation + costs = £1027 per year, or £85 quid a month, all in.

I'm earning ok money, I really can't see how people can afford the kind of sums as per the OP?! (Not a dig at the OP). I just couldn't manage it.
by the same token , money is very tight for me right now. i bought my last car for £700 , and whilst it is legal , i run it on a shoestring . i cannot imagine spending £85 per month. horses for courses. i would love a 6 series and will get one perhaps. i do have to adit that driving an automatic vectra is a miserable experience smile

i don't think he can afford it either, hence the thread.
