pound-for-pound I don't think there is a better car than a well-maintained 650i. Colossal amount of car for the money.
I spent £6k in bits and bobs maintenance over 18 months on a 70k mile fsh very tidy example and plenty still needed doing.

You need to be comfortable with doing work yourself or having a big maintenance budget if you don’t want to rely on being lucky.
opinions vary, there's plenty on here that have run theirs for much longer than 18 months and spent less than £6k...

The issue is that the cars very capable of throwing issues up that'll cost money like that; that, in the end (plus stupid insurance quotes when I added my wife (who's driven longer than me, never claimed/no accidents and is an advanced driver rolleyes ) put a stop to me buying a facelift 650i that's fairly local to me & looked stunning!

They are superb cars and the V8 sounds awesome

But there is a huge bork factor with these that everyone knows about; so you go in with your eyes wide open and either fix them before they become an issue, or drive it until they become an issue and then fix them (mainly the V coolant pipe, the alternator bracket seal and the various other seals that all like to leak) etc...

Or just buy a 630i. smile

(And deal with valve cover gasket leaks, oil housing leaks, oil cooler housing leaks, sump gasket leaks... biggrin )
