I'm aware that there are well known problems with the central locking on E90s, but can anyone point me the right way on this?

The central locking on my recently bought 325i Touring works perfectly, except seemingly when the car has been parked in direct sunlight for a bit. When the car is warm, it doesn't respond to either of the fobs at all. When that happens, I can open the car with the physical key and the central locking immediately starts working.

FWIW, I've checked that fuses 56 and 57 are intact, and they have been uprated to 20A already.

So what's the next port of call for diagnosing this?

Cheers!

Check your diversity amplifier in the spoiler - might have some corrosion on it which you can fix with rubbing alcohol/surgical spirit. This was the cause on mine.

I removed the spoiler to have a look and couldn't see obvious signs of water ingress.

Since reassembly, the central locking seems to have got even worse, although that may be a coincidence.

One thing I didn't do was fully dismantle the diversity antenna module. I took the black cover off, but didn't remove the green circuit board from the case. Think I might need to go back in there...

...aaaannd I took the whole lot apart again today and the circuit board is immaculate - no sign of water damage or corrosion at all.

By process of elimination I *think* I've worked out that the central locking uses the ribbon antenna that's attached to the spoiler itself. I'm wondering if this is broken inside, which could explain why temperature variations seem to influence its behaviour.

The other option is broken wiring inside one of the cable sheaths emerge by the hinges. I'm not sure I've got the knowledge and patience to trace the break if that's what it is, but I did lots of wiggling of wires to no effect so I prefer the antenna theory.

(Remote locking is now working slightly better again, we'll see if it is tomorrow!)

Broken wiring in the 'sheath' on the right hand side. Did mine last year, common fault.
Slice the sheath open and you should 3? Wires. On mine one had snapped and another was close to it.
I soldered it back together and sleeved it in heat shrink.
