Are these £500 pools any good?

Could you expect it to last a few years?

Need to drain in winter?

What's a few gallons of water cost?

How effective are the black solar rubber bag type heaters?

I remember a mate looking at these. He came back and said the one he looked at needed 5,500 gallons of water (about 25,000 litres). it was 18 foot by 9 foot mind.and about 4 foot high.

How much is a litre of water? 2p?? could cost you the same to fill it.

I think tap water is more like 0.2p per litre? Or around twice that including the drainage fees.

So somewhere between £50 and £100 to fill it.

Yes empty in winter. Don't bother with a heater. Wetsuits and shivering for the kids.

Water costs me (and many others) nothing - find a neighbour unmetered and run a long hose.

I've never known anyone to use them more than a couple of times (I'm in Scotland though). Also look very tacky imo.

Loads of people have them out here in Cyprus - they last quite well and are easily repairable if they do get punctured.

You can get wood cladding type surrounds for them if the look bothers you.

The sand filter is a big plus, you will need some form of heating otherwise you wont use it - probably some form of solar heating plus a good cover.

I've got one of the small 12 or 15 foot 'easy up' pools with a heater - and it gets used a lot when it's up. You have to keep it chemically managed of course as well

My parents had one of the smaller round inflatable pools for a couple of summers, they got it for something like 50 Euro from a French supermarket.

It was only 'heated' by having a cover that was like giant bubble wrap, which was enough to get the top few inches bath water hot but the rest was freezing.

But, it was nice and refreshing to laze around in on a hot sunny day (although they do live on the Dorset coast to get better weather than most of the country).

You're not going to do any actually swimming in a larger pool so might as well get a more modest sized one.

We've got this at the bottom of the garden, even when it's sunny it's a bit chilly. Anyone got any suggestions on how to heat it?
