New 440i M Sport build lead time
Discussion
Bearing in mind that my 335d was a (late) E91, so was "only" kicking out 284bhp, the extra 40 odd bhp is noticeable. I do drive other petrol cars regularly, but nothing over 200bhp.
The old school perception of diesels being good at the bottom, with petrol being good at the top of the rev range has turned topsy turvy!
The 440 at 2000rpm equates to 86mph, so fairly high geared. It's never going to see 7000rpm in top is it???
It may well be that the ZF box is so much better than the old 6 speed auto - or the software is....
I have found myself going for gaps I would not have done in the 335. At legal speeds. Sure, I don't expect the 440 to be as thunderingly quick over 120mph like the 335d was. If it is, well......that would be mind blowing (probably take me a year or so to get the opportunity to do that sort of thing too!)
A couple of times in Comfort Auto (Not tried Sport yet :-) ) the good lady has uttered expletives about the acceleration. And that's keeping it legal. She's not done that before (plenty of comments about my driving previously though).
Did I mention the fuel economy?

Strange, I'd expect the petrol to have more of an advantage at higher speeds as bhp becomes more important than torque? However, if you're comparing the 440i to an older E9x 335d I can understand why the 440i feels quicker. Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
