I've got my eye on a 5er GT as a long term replacement for two family cars - we can get by with one car, this ticks a lot of boxes for us.

Personally I love the looks but appreciate it's not for everyone. Then again my favourite car is an Alfa SZ so perhaps I'm attracted to the quirkier end of the spectrum!

It's not quirky, it's a pig! Almost as bad as the X6!

Could it be jazzed up a little do you think?

Hello, I like the Uniqueness.

Can I ask

1. Is the road noise the same as the F01 7 - if so that is great.

2. Are the seats the rubbish F11 seats or are they like the 7s, I seem to note they vary?

Agreed on all points, I think it looks more modern now than it ever has.

It was bad at first. But now... I like the fact that its unique mobile office with good vision.

Everyone has an X5 - normally people called Shaun.

The X6 is just as ugly as the GT5 and the new GT6 is no better looking.

Ill pitch in here as a 520d GT owner.

It's bloody ace in every respect. I even like the oddball looks!

I own a Z3M Coupe, a 997 Turbo and a track slag e46 M3 so obviously my initial concerns on the powertrain getting lost on this big beast were justified.

You know what; it's perfectly suited to it and the ZF8 is a thing of joy. The 2.0d engine sounds different in the GT to the F10 and F11 Ive previously owned - I'm not sure what they have done but it sounds fine at idle with a perfectly acceptable thrum as opposed to the previous clatter. It really sprightly off the mark and has more than enough oomph to get into naughty speeds on the motorway.

The seats are sublime. I'm a fairly big chap at 6'2" and there is oodles of room for my two children and a cvernous boot to swallow all the crap.

All the reviews of the GT said the 2.0d makes most sense giving a great balance of economy and power and I'd go with that too.

The GT is a cut above the regular 5.... not even close... for ambience, ride, space, and luxury. Getting picked up by Park Lane in their 5touring is like being downgraded from first class to cattle class.
