Hi guys, getting a 6 series. 650i is out of the question since it's way to expensive to run.

640i - petrol, avg mpg is 30
640d - diesel, avg mpg is 40

Both similar speed. Same 8-speed gearbox.

For 17-21k I can bag one with under 60,000 miles.

My mate says the diesel one will lose value due to the new diesel tax in the UK.

Has anyone had both? Also is yours convertible?

What year is the car? Mine is a 64 plate 535d and that is Euro 6 so it escapes all that diesel tax bks.

It will be 2012. So same engine as yours for the diesel.

How many miles and what type of driving do you generally do?

Cruising up and down the motorway and not much else - diesel, anything else petrol, especially if its a convertible

I'm pretty certain a 2012 640d will be Euro 5 and therefore liable to the T-charge from 2019 - it wasn't until some time in 2015 that all new 640d models were Euro 6.

It varied by model when they moved from Euro 5 to 6. For the F30 335d with the same engine as the 640d, it was Euro 6 from launch in 2013.

I would agree that a convertible should be petrol, but the 640d feels a fair bit more eager than the 640i, so just from a driving perspective (Euro 5 issues aside) I would take the diesel.

It comes up as Euro 6 so it escapes the latest round. I drive into London occasionally so mine being Euro 6 was a must

Yes, according to parkers (http://www.parkers.co.uk/bmw/6-series/gran-coupe-2012/640d-se-4d-auto/specs/), the 2012 onwards 640d is Euro 6.

On a side note, it's really wierd. Between 17-21K there are 20x 640d's. There are only 6x 640i's and they're ALL convertible.

Parker's is wrong, my December 2014 640d is EURO 5 so it's worth checking the V5C.

My F11 535d shows up as an Euro 6 on the V5c and its registered as a 64 plate?
It does have an additional downstream RP Catalytic converter so that might explain it?

All LCI 5 Series are Euro 6 compliant.
