Need 4 new tyres may go back to runflat
Discussion
Hi all soon as I got my new 64 plate 330d and drove it knew I had to get rid of those continental runflats crashy ,howly on motorways etc etc put non runflat michelin sports on and totally different.
This may be my last set of tyres before it goes back. what to do what to do .Bridgestones have 3rd generation now. Have the others ??? The service manager at BMW is going to put Pirellis on his own BMW.Any ideas thoughts any runflats out there that surprised you how good they were?
Cheers

I had exactly the same problem. I bought a 2009 BMW 320d which came on Continental runflats. They were so bad I would describe them as dangerous. Then I needed a new pair in a hurry so I orded the cheapest runflats I could find. They were Kumho KU31 runflats. The difference was amazing and within two weeks I ordered another pair to make a full set.[IMG] https://www.oponeo.ie/Temp/kumho-ku31-1182-t-f-l12...

I had a 123d for over 6 years and only ever ran it on Pirelli RFTs, and never had any issues with them. The ride wasn't even bad (although they were only 205/50 x 17)!
I think the RFT issues may be highlighted more with bigger rims and lower profiles - my Z4 has 255/30 X 18 rears and Bridgestone RFTs, which are a bit crashy! But on a Z4 I can live with that.
Then again if you will be handing it back soon, why not save some money and stick with non-RFTs? Or should it go back with what it was first supplied on?

The Goodyear is a decent choice, I'm on my second set, they grip well and last well too, so wouldn't hesitate to recommend.GTEYE said:

GTE im glad youve come on with those tyres whats the road noise like? I am mentally having trouble coming to terms with £176 x 4 for something I may regret. I have told the tyre place to hang fire I may stick with my NON run flat Michelin Sports which are really spot on and are actually the tyre that AC Schnitzer reccomend to go with my AC Schnitzer shocks and springs.......decisions decisions doing my head in reallyEdited by smashy on Friday 7th July 15:53

Creepycoupe thanks for coming on well looks like you and GT eye have helped me make my mind up. Cheers!!
I wouldn't hesitate on refitting Goodyears again smashy. Especially on the F series BM's. Now the E9# range I wouldn't the dampers and springs are just too firm. A very close second choice is Conti's. we run them on a company 330d and there good, but not as good.creepy coupe said:

64 plate. So F series car? Good Year Eagle run flats are the best out there. Had them on my 4 series. So much better than the other options about.
I'd agree with that - I've got 35k on my latest set on my 4 Series, and they still have 4mm of tread depth - so long lasting too!Noise seems to be pretty good, compliant ride and grippy too. Not cheap, but I'd say they were worth it.

Why do you want to put run flats on?
Simply that I do a lot of miles and my NON runflats were filled with ultraseal which twice got me out of trouble and I cant find the distributor anymore. Once when a nail went into the shoulder even though ultraseal said it didnt work on shoulders it turned it into a runflat and I returned home 60 miles away. The other time a nail in the tread just sealed up instantly allowing me to return home 150 miles away and when replaced still hadnt deflated at all gizlaroc said:
Got you.
I was wondering if it was because you were trading the car soon and thought BMW might want it on run flats.
Hello Gizze ,well you know to be fair that was a consideration but I am hanging on to see how this Diesel hate turns out.I will be very sad to see my 3ltr diesel MPG go down the swanee AKA west london to leeds and back 52.6 mpg this week. I cant get that car under 40 mpg on a long drive no matter how fast I go.I was wondering if it was because you were trading the car soon and thought BMW might want it on run flats.
Im in the other camp, my car has the Eagle F1 run flats which id recommend to the OP (fine for daily / long drives for a run flat), however useless on track.
Im looking at getting a second set of wheels for when i want to enjoy the car..... do i need those special valves?
Does anyone know if the tyre pressure monitoring system for a 2014 435i is done by the rotational differences, or the valves which go into each wheel?
Many thanks for your help.
