Maybe a good way to go would be for me to open up my search to iDrive-less cars too and seek a nice oem looking headunit with Apple CarPlay. Struggling to find anything though.

MOT on the 330i. Nae problem. As I do every time, I get an advisory for engine covers/undertrays being fitted though.
Great news! thumbup

I've never understood those advisories - how many cars don't have covers/undertrays? I think it says more about the tester than the car!

Given the nature of the test and the guidelines and standards the tester is put in a situation where they can leave it off as an advisory but if there's anything hidden that later becomes an issue it can come back and bite them. Those trays can hide a multitude of sins. Hence most put it on. The agency may revise it again. A tougher test may even dictate removal of the trays but they'd have to extend the duration and therefore the cost.

To be fair I think it's a case of what's the least garish. There's a single DIN Pioneer which is fairly low key but I've not seen it fully illuminated. Some of the options I've seen on the display at Halfords are pretty OTT.

I did see a link on PH to a system that's designed to look as OEM as possible but can't recall the make. It wasn't cheap though - something like £5-600 IIRC.

Their website is appallingly bad. It's buggy and some of the sample images look very unprofessional. I wouldn't gamble £600 with them

One thing pisses me off with the E91; the load cover shooting up when you open the rear screen. Get back in the car and can't see st out of the back.

My Dad's F11 has an electronic thing so that cover goes back down when you shut it! Given the age my car is, I prefer the manual method!

I've just lost an hour of productivity scanning through this thread, so I thought that I'd share mine.

May 2012 (one of the last?) E91 335d with pretty much all the options bar the Panoramic Roof and electric seats. I even have the weird electronically retractable towbar - very handy for a bike rack!

I bought it in August this year on 41k miles with FBMWSH and one owner. Colour is Bluewater with Rotbraun (not Coral) leather and brushed trim. I searched for a spec like this for ages!

No real plans other than keeping it fresh... maybe a mild remap. Maybe.

Superchips remap works well on these. Either via dealer or Bluefin.

That colour combination looks lovely! thumbup

I'd imagine a 335d is quite a weapon - which may explain the "maybe a mild remap" thought. laugh

Cheers! Yeah, in terms of real world performance it's incredible. Just so much torque everywhere. It's also really good for just munching miles too, the interior's such a nice place to be.

Possibly interesting to this thread as the ultimate E90 6-cilinder variant.

In the past weeks I've been lucky enough to spend 1k km seat time in various Alpina B3 BiTurbo's, amongst others on unlimited Autobahns.

My current daily is an E91 325iT. In past 2-3 years, I've spent 100+k miles in N54B30 (mainly Z4 3.0Si) and S54B32 engined cars (E46 M3 and Z4M).
Also 5k miles in E90 M3 V8 variants.

Some quick conclusions:
- the B3 is very rapid - not much slower (if even) than an E90 M3
- fuel consumption is not much more than a regular 3.0, half of the fuel consumption of an E90 M3
- in terms of character - more restrained than E46 M3 or E90 M3. Possibly on par with a Z4 3.0Si or Z4M
- visually... other drivers seem to assume it's a E90 diesel so don't move aside. Much easier overtaking with an E90 M3

Conclusion... would make a great fairly anonymous daily driver.

OK still not an E91, but I have finally taken the plunge and removed my cdv. So much better having a normal clutch action. Well worth doing if you haven't already.

Nice E91, I nearly bought that actual car from Lee at CLS , but went for an older one from him in the end as wanted a pan roof. But I must say It looked great in the flesh absolutely loved the colour combo and spec.

Think I've got a picture of it somewhere next to mine.
