My old car! Owned it from 2010 until 2014 and added the Birds kit and Alpine audio. Great car which seems to have been very lucky with its owners (I bought it from the owner of UberGT who was ex-Sytner I believe). Strangely enough I now own an E61 530i SE Touring with a manual box in titanium silver...

Enjoy it!

It’s nice to see old owners come out of the woodwork. Thanks for doing the bits you did! I’ll keep this thread up to date with my going’s on for the car. Aiming for 200 large at least on it. smile

I spent 8 hrs yesterday, 12 hrs today and probably another 4 hrs tomorrow working on the wife's 330i.

Rebushed the rear subframe, new arms, new bushes, new ARBs, new drop links, new brake pipes. New front arms, track rods, track rod ends, ARB drop links and Bilsteins and EIbach springs all round.

Flushed the brake fluid, replaced the diff and gearbox oil.

Tomorrow, I'll flush the PAS fluid and fit an new reservoir. Then I'll drop it in it's wheels and using a couple of bits of string, a spirit level and a laser measure, get the wheels pointing in broadly the same direction.

My hands are sore and I have a scab on my head from banging it on the underside of the car.
Roughly how much has this cost you in parts? My 335i could do with much the same treatment...

£2500

I used Autodoc.co.uk BuyCarParts.co.uk for all the Lemforder bushes and Bilstein B12 kit, a.parts on ebay for arms etc and BMW for all the bolts etc.

If all was to be purchased from BMW the bill would have been £4500.

It is as tight as a drum to drive now.

It is worth noting that I ordered the 6cyl diesel touring B12 kit for my 330i saloon. This avoids the further ride height drop nicely.

Also, I bought a used subframe from ebay £100. Had it powder coated and fitted all the bushes and new arms prior to starting work. This probably saved me 8hrs with the car in the air/off the road. One for one swap if you like.

Since we're sharing photos, thought I'd post one of the wife's Touring following its recent remedial work.

Well, mine made it to France all good. 470 miles in a day, and still had 50 miles of range in the tank! Drove very well, and kept us comfortable even when the outside temperature was over 40 degrees C. It rode very well, and the nav even took us right to the hotel. I’m impressed so far with it. The boot swallowed all of our rubbish too, even with a spare wheel in it.

Ticking itself cool after a long, hot drive.

Superb. My 330i has just completed a 2500 mile trip around Spain, France and Italy and didn't put a foot wrong. Really what these cars were made for

Bit random but does anyone have any recommendations for replacement mats please? Just been quoted a silly number for OEM so will have to look for some aftermarkets.

As an option, I’ve got a spare set of genuine black carpet mats. I purchased these from Cotswold BMW in Oct 2017. Still have the invoice for approx. £95.

They have probably done maybe 18-20k? Some marks, but overall pretty good. The car rarely had passengers. I don’t have the Velcro discs for the carpets, but pretty sure these could be bought separately. Drop me and email if you are interested. Cheers

I drove to Italy via France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Was perfect for the job, although I must admit, I am really enjoying the little Skoda Fabia rental that I have here in Croatia. Something refreshing about really driving a car hard without actually going fast haha.

I bought a set of these recently for my E90, after having the same in my E91 last year. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009XA8OCO/ref...

The fit is good, quality is better than I had any right to expect for the price - the only slight issue is I had to drill the OEM carpet to get the fitting clip for the nearside of the driver's mat in the right place.

Finally managed to get a picture to be able to post up here.

After 10 years or so of driving mainly 2litre diesels with a mini cooperS thrown into the mix it is quite a change to be in something that doesn't have that usual 'shove' as the turbo spools up and you come onto boost.

Done a couple of hundred miles in it so far and other than being far thirstier than i'm used to I'm loving it.

Got quite a few options on it too which makes a change from my usual poverty spec cars. Adaptive Xenons are amazing although I've got to say the reception for the stereo is rubbish. I listen to Heart London and i'm constantly having to switch it between the 3 different versions of Heart it can find and even then I find sometimes none of them are very good.

Love the colour and these look so much better with Xenons I reckon. cool

I can relate to the power delivery differences too, my Cooper S is mega punchy low down but its all over at 5500rpm...whereas my 370Z is just starting to get going at 5500rpm!

The differences between a Turbo engine and a N/A engine is fascinating I always think. I do prefer a Turbo if I'm honest...but when I can be arsed to actually drive a N/A engine is so rewarding for sure. drivingthumbup

I'm still at the giggling stage overtime I bother to let it rev out as it just keeps building and building! The turbo cars just punch you in the gut and then its all gone.

Loving how stable and planted it feels when you push a bit too. The last few cars i've had like the mini were just so skittish all the time.

Yes and a Turbo engine is a bit of a one trick pony I agree(they can be very fast though).

I also love the way the E9x 3 series drive(I've had 3) and they feel very balanced and surefooted to drive and they give you confidence. Whereas the Mini will just punt you off the road if you're not concentrating! hehe

just got back in mine after a fortnight in a hire car and can’t believe how heavy the steering is. Feels like it’s not powered by comparison to the holiday Astra.

Make sure you don't have any cheap ciggy lighter chargers plugged in, for phones, nav, dash cams etc.
They ruin radio reception.

Looks great mate BTW.
