I have advertised my 330i M-Sport on Gumtree.

However, I don't really want to sell it, just trying to appease my wife.

So, since advertising it I have done the following......

New set of Goodyear Eagle F1 non run flats all round.
Control arms which I had off my last one when I put the M3 ones on it, only had 20k or so on them. Put them on, feels much tighter.
New drop links and anti roll bar bushes.
New OEM M-Sport dampers, top mounts, dust covers and bump stops.
New rear window spindle, old one was getting bunged up.
New rear window actuator as the cable was getting caught up and twisted.
Retrofitted the OEM DAB.
Fitted a bluetooth music streaming to the aux input.
Got some leather beige spray paint to spray the rear centre console which is all worn on the edges where kids have obviously been putting their feet. Can't stand things like that.
A new set of matts.

Just order the OEM Bluetooth module and that will go in next week.

Oh, and as I already posted, fitted the wood trim to swap out the beige.

It has been a busy week. I really need to do some work at some point.

Fiona still thinks we should be swapping it for something small that does 50mpg.

I bought a Fiat Panda 4x4 this morning as a bit of a fun project, she can have that! wink

Did he really have a head gasket or was it the rocker cover gasket?

I am seriously considering selling the F11 first.

I guess my issue, like most people, is we need two cars. But I think I would be gutted if I sold the 330i more than I would the 520d.
That will also leave me with £10000 to play about with which means if I do fancy a 340i Touring it makes it all a bit easier to buy one.

I actually bought a Mini this morning. Not seen it, but it was a trade in, the right price and means I don't have to worry about a second car. It is only a 2006 Mini One D, but looks quite nice and is at a price that I will be able to move it on quickly or trade it in again without the worry of having to sell a car before buying something new.

The 340i Tourings at the right price go quickly, need to be ready to bite when they turn up.

Tricky that

I think it's hard to find modern cars with any soul. The 340i will be quick and make a good noise. That could work for you. Sounds like you've put a lot of effort into your 330i and that will make the attachment greater. I hope it works out for you.

I've been hankering after upgrading my 325i SE manual to a 330i auto for a while. Does anyone have any experience of how the M sport ride quality compares to the SE?

I think ride is much more tyre dependant than suspension. Sure the sport is a bit stiffer but if you are comparing 18 run flat se to 18 inch go flat sport there isn't much in it. My mate had an se with 16 wheels and it was very smooth. What size tyres do you have on the se and are they run flat?

The M-Sport Sachs dampers are actually more compliant than the SE dampers, they seem to cope with the UK roads better.
However.....they are slightly shorter as are the springs, so if you are running run flats you have less to soak up the roads.

Once you get off run flats however, everything changes, the M-Sport on non run flats is more comfy than the SE on run flats, and if anything it can be a little too soft. Not bad and still handles great.

I swapped for the Bilsteins on my last car, after ditching run flats and found them too firm, while not really offering anything handling wise.
I then put on an upgraded anti roll bar on my next one with the oem m-sport dampers and that was great, it really did feel very planted, flat into corners but lost none of the comfort.

Also, it isn't just about comfort, the oem dampers/springs, with proper tyres, work really well on typical roads we have, by that I mean there is enough movement to bite into fast corners which are not billiard table flat. That is where run flats really struggle too, and when I went to the Bilsteins some of that came back, if the road was not really smooth the back end would skip about too much.

M-Sport, non run flats, upgraded anti roll bar is the sweet spot for these imho.
I still want the car to be a comfy family wagon, I want to be able to drive across a city with all the speed bumps and not think about it, I have gone passed the stage where I want it lowered and super firm for that 30 minutes once a month where I hoon it around it feels like a go kart, sure that is great.......for those 30 minutes, the problem is it is not nice for the other 30 hours a month I am driving it.

Thanks both. I ditched the run flats as soon as I could. Currently running Michelin CrossClimate+ 225/45 R17.

I had a E90 330d M sport for 6 years and I had a E90 330i M sport for 4 years, and I had a E92 330d SE as a loan car for a week that I did 180 miles a day in.

The SE ride is night and day better than the M sport for me. Although handling and cornering wise the SE felt like a boat in comparison to the M sport with loads of roll in the corners. If you want comfort then go for a SE...but if you enjoy handling more then it has to be the M sport for me.

Then yes it will be firmer but if you dont want to drive a cruise ship which is wallowing around then you need some firmness.

Also most m sport cars come with 18 inch which will add even more firmness and also wider at the rear. My advice if going for an m sport is keep your 17 size with 225 front and rear. It will feel much sweeter.

How are you finding the cross climates?

The standard sport 17 inch rims are staggered, too.

I do wish you'd stop handing out advice about wheels and tyres like you know what you're talking about, when you clearly don't.

Given all the bad reports, I expected the ride on M sport suspension + run flats (albeit Eagle F1s rather than OEM Bridgestone) to be terrible but tbh, I think it's fine. It's certainly a lot more compliant and comfortable than my Z4 (Sports suspension + Bridgestone run flats) which is headache inducingly stiff.

I've always thought that the ride was fine with the M sport suspension and run flats on smooth tarmac, but as soon as you hit broken tarmac or pot holes it turned into being really harsh for me.

The OEM Bridgestones are particularly bad though and that is the tyre I always had.

Z4 on 18s, with OEM Bridgestone RFT and sports suspension is about as bad as I've experienced in recent times. I swapped onto PS3s and it was appreciably better.

That's a nice ad, I like the film over the reversing lights. Price is competitve too, I paid similar for my E91 in July. 30k more, but manual.

Were it me I'd be getting rid of the F11, freeing up more cash helps, in addition to having less of a depreciation bill as time goes on. Not to mention that sounds like a sorted E91.

For a DAB solution, I am thinking about getting a FISTUNE unit from Kufatec and fitting it. Nav cars only I believe, but acts like a CD changer. Before that I think it's combox time though.
