Turns out the US cars have the flat filters, whereas we have the cylindrical type.

Typically one of my bolts was rusted in place. Soaked in PlugGas, and despite this twisted and snapped the head off.
Luckily the airbox closes and seals ok without it but annoying nevertheless.I notice air filter change isn't one of the specific Condition Based Servicing items. Looking at the service book, it appears the air filter is supposed to be replaced with every 3rd oil change. (Apparently the fuel filter is supposed to be replaced on every 3rd oil change also).

You what now? I changed mine when I reached 200k miles, I'm pretty sure mine was original to the car...and mine had full BMW service history when I bought it...They're not cheap either....

I had an E46 Bentley Manual saved for years, and got given an E90 Haynes manual by a mate that found it in a charity shop years ago.

As for the fuel filter, I believe that's only diesel models that have them replaced with the air filter. BMW haven't had a petrol fuel filter on the service schedule in years. My dad's X5 went over 200,000 miles on the factory fuel filter.

Right guys, lets delve into the realm of fantasy! I've been looking to upsize for the last month or so (COVID has epic timing!), as wonderful as this platform is, it isn't big enough for our needs as a family anymore.
So, to the big question. what is it worth? It's an individual spec 325i Msport (N53) auto, pre facelift, 96000 miles, CCC iDrive, auto dim rear view and wing mirrors, power/auto fold mirrors, LED door lights, puddle lights, dark blue leather inside with custom light accent stitching, xenon headlights and no damage to speak of. The autobox was serviced when I bought it at 84k, and works like a dream. Wheels could do with a refurb as the rims are a little scuffed in places, but it has good rubber all round, Dunlop SportMaxx on the rear and Uniroyal Rainsports on the front. Interior is in generally good condition apart from the steering wheel being a little worn around the buttons (soft plastic has worn out in places) and the leather being a little cracked at the 12 position. It'll go with a fresh service/MOT. Pictures to follow:
I realise it's a daft time to try this game, but it's perfect timing for me to sell it on otherwise - MOT runs out at the end of April, so does the insurance, 12 month service is due (I don't go in for longlife servicing - it tends to shorten engine lifespans, not lengthen them).
Another note is the car will have a NOXEM emulator fitted before selling, so NOx sensor problems won't exist and the car will run properly!

With a fresh ticket, service, and NOXEM I'd try for £4,500. But judging the market at this time will be tough. There's talk elsewhere of lots of cars losing quite a bit of (monetary) value recently.
Unless it's really not liveable, is it worth getting it MOT'ed, serviced and then running it for a while longer? Bluewater is a really nice colour, too.

It's livable now, but it'll need changing before the summer holidays were meant to kick in, so I figure save the hassle of having to change insurance details twice in 3 months, extra charges for changing vehicle, a less competitive price potentially as well. From what I'm hearing prices are set to keep going down so might be best to jump off now when the water's waist high rather than in 3 months with a risk of drowning...Unless it's really not liveable, is it worth getting it MOT'ed, serviced and then running it for a while longer? I do love the colour, and if it was big enough I'd do the work and keep it! Unfortunately the other catch is the Mrs - she'll be driving the big car more than me, and she's already voiced her hate regards driving the e91 (the buttons are confusing apparently), and how low it is

I am looking for advice on the auto transmission (6 speed) which seems to be a lot less responsive than it used to be (now on 48k miles, had the car since 6k).
2 noticeable symptoms
- it really does hold higher gears for too long before down-shifting. It regularly gets down to ca. 1000 revs, on open throttle while climbing noticeable hills. To me the engine sounds uncomfortable at such low revs under load.
- medium engine speed, part-throttle shifts (i.e. when opening the throttle quite quickly, but not fully) the downshift is slower than I would expect. I end up stabbing the throttle more aggressively to encourage the down-shift. There was a time when I used to drive it in manual mode (using the paddles) because it was way too eager to downshift.
The above are both in "normal" not sport mode.
I was thinking maybe an accelerator position sensor problem? Or perhaps the gradient sensing has gone awol (for first symptom)?
I have done the transmission reset thing, and any improvement (if real, not imagined) is short-lived.

Did my cabin filter this arvo and splashed out on a new housing as the old one had fecked fixings. Checked my air filter while I was at it as I've never done it before myself and i think I could do with a new one. It's a nice car. Oddly enough I've seen quite a few N53 325i coming on the market last couple of weeks - mainly coupes and the odd convertible. No tourings. Six cylinder Tourings (esp in good spec) command a premium ime. Unless it's really not liveable, is it worth getting it MOT'ed, serviced and then running it for a while longer? Bluewater is a really nice colour, too.
