I thought that. Looks a good buy for around £3k...
Yeah, not bad at all. It's virtually identical to my car (same year and colour even) except mine doesn't have iDrive and is almost certainly tattier... Oh, and I don't love the darker grey wheels on that.

It's hard to put a price on these cars when they're so rare – at any given moment there might only be one or two manual, petrol 6-cylinder cars for sale.

they always seem to crop up when ive
not long got into something else.
I would have bought that over my 330d.

I set up a search for 325i and 330i manual saloons and tourings about six months ago when I was looking, on PH, AT and eBay. At one point I was getting a ping every few days, mostly for cars I wasn't really interested in (e.g. if it was a saloon it must have folding seats, which rules out about 80%). However now they seem to have completely dried up. I didn't bother cancelling the alerts even though I'm no longer looking, as they're so infrequent I forget that they are switched on.

Gutted as my 56 plate 335i E91 Manual has just been written off by the insurance company.
I only picked it up on the 30th Dec. Car was parked and someone hit and run, thankfully 2 people saw it and reported it.
I'll find out how much they will pay on Monday or Tuesday.
If anyone knows of any 335 E91's coming up for sale please let me know. The only 2 I am aware of are a white one and the 19k mile one at almost £18k which I won't be looking at..

Sorry to hear that. Very frustrating indeed. Hope the insurance company pay out fair value but I suspect they'll low ball you on the first offer "because old car".

Is the damage especially bad, or is it more an economical write-off?

Hi. Really sorry to hear that, esp as they're thin on the ground. Any pics? Will you be able to buy it back or is it a breaker only?

Uneconomical to repair.Needs back bumper, front bumper paint and the the rear driver side panel is dented near the petrol filler.
No structural damage.
Car was parked on side of the road and according to witnesses a person looking for a place to park hit it but wasn’t going fast.
I am used to having agreed values on my other cars but didn’t bother on this as really didn’t think i’d need it.
Quote to repair was £4.2k..
I'll see what my options are when they tell me the payout next week. I just know it's going to be super hard to replace a manual version.

Did they give you a price to buy it back? Would it be worth taking the payout, buy the car and fix yourself? New bumper should be easier enough to find, and then leave the dent and scuff?

I’d repair it. A pair of bumpers and an o/s/r 1/4 repair.

Is that the insurers estimated repair cost?

Typically insurance work costs will be uplifted (ime). Add to that a poor valuation (also typical ime) and economical write off is a common result.

As above I'd be tempted to buy back and get it repaired

The estimate was direct from an approved BMW body shop.
As yet they insurance company haven't confirmed the payout. That will be next week, then I can also ask for buy back and start to look at all options.

i would be buying that back and take to repair myself if i was you.

Depending on what the offer is the least you could do is sell it to me for a profit.

I agree with the rest. I'd buy it back, fix on the cheap if you can find already painted bumpers in OK condition, and have a fix done on the rear quarter. If you really wanted to then run it a as a shed bodywise the repairs to the rear quarter could be left out.

Agree with all the above - definitely looks like one to buy back and repair, changing the bumper will sort 80% of that and how much you're willing to spend on the rest to get it looking good cosmetically is up to you. If you don't I've no doubt someone else will buy it as salvage, do a quick repair and sell it on for a substantial mark-up.

That's a real shame, but I'm struggling to see how a £4.2K quote makes a manual 335i uneconomic to repair. confused

If it is you'd better be sitting down when you get their offer!

Given how rare most manual 6 cylinder E90s seem to be I'd certainly think about buying it back and having it repaired with some 2nd hand parts (like the bumper) - but bear in mind it will then have a "CAT" marker which will limit it's future value, although some good pre and post repair photos can help with that.

Whatever happens I hope you get a decent outcome, and that the idiot who did it then b*ggered off ends up paying. thumbup

I bought this back and its almost all fixed now. I'd never done it before so wasn't sure how it worked. My ins co told me the way it works with them which felt a bit back to front but I took the gamble anyway. So you express your interest to buy back at the start. Then you have to agree the write off value so what they will pay you. Then after 2 or 3 weeks they let you know the buy back amount. You have to decide if you want it at that price. If you do they pay you the difference and you have to collect the car. They managed to lose my car after I agreed to have it back. But it turned up eventually.
