E91 Straight Six Bearding

That's a real shame, but I'm struggling to see how a £4.2K quote makes a manual 335i uneconomic to repair.
If it is you'd better be sitting down when you get their offer!
Given how rare most manual 6 cylinder E90s seem to be I'd certainly think about buying it back and having it repaired with some 2nd hand parts (like the bumper) - but bear in mind it will then have a "CAT" marker which will limit it's future value, although some good pre and post repair photos can help with that.
Whatever happens I hope you get a decent outcome, and that the idiot who did it then b*ggered off ends up paying.
I insured it for what I paid for it - £8,750 - it had done 103k miles. So I guess as the repair cost was around 50% of the value they decided it was a no go. The biggest issue I know I will face is finding alternatives to argue the value. All I have at the moment are 3 autos that are/have been on the market. A red one recently advertised with 127k on the clock at £9,995 sold. Contacted the buyer via eBay but they haven't responded yet. The pain is I need a replacement car and didn't take a hire car as thought I'd get the car back in a few weeks. If it is you'd better be sitting down when you get their offer!

I bought this back and its almost all fixed now. I'd never done it before so wasn't sure how it worked. My ins co told me the way it works with them which felt a bit back to front but I took the gamble anyway. So you express your interest to buy back at the start. Then you have to agree the write off value so what they will pay you. Then after 2 or 3 weeks they let you know the buy back amount. You have to decide if you want it at that price. If you do they pay you the difference and you have to collect the car. They managed to lose my car after I agreed to have it back. But it turned up eventually.
Remember reading your thread, standing water I believe?Fulla said:

They ask you what you value it for, then ignore it (unless you have an agreed value)! And use "guide" values that are pretty much meaningless for rarer cars. Had a similar problem a couple of years ago when a relative had a bump in his Imola Red 54 plate E46 325i manual Sport Touring that took a few months to find in the first place - manual straight 6s are pretty few and far between!
Their 1st offer will probably be pathetic so don't be afraid to tell them it is!
He then got a much more sensible offer, kept the car and got it repaired for less than they paid - but they decided it was a Cat S based on the photos from his phone.
It was Cat N at worst but he needed the payment so couldn't afford the time for that argument! They didn't bother sending anyone to look at it - so I learnt not to consider insuring with Admiral because they are cr*p!
I just hope you get a decent outcome.

I would advise anyone thinking of buying back their own damaged car to make sure the car is recovered to your own address after the accident. Let the insurance send engineer to access damage there.
From experience and as mentioned above cars can get 'lost' and parts removed once they go to salvage/recovery yards. I once had a cavalier sri VIN tags removed/destroyed as salvage yard mistook it for a 'breaker car. I've bought back several cars now and it's pretty straightforward.

probably doesnt help but there is a manual one on ebay now, 150k miles for £6000https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224334894888
I see on the back seats there are fairly decent sized holes for the left & right passenger seat belt receptacles, am I able to push them down into the seat squab, flush, so they dont mark the seat back when folded down?
Ive tried pushing them in but they always spring back out, just wondering if im missing something?

On pre facelifts they stay like that I'm afraid. Facelift ones have them more integrated into the seat squab and a different centre belt design.Ive tried pushing them in but they always spring back out, just wondering if im missing something?

I've got a full interior advertised on Gumtree at moment(including door cards) with the rear from a 2011 LCI (facelift) M sport but its in black. Bought a full m sport interior to get the front sport seats to replace the SE seats in my 2009 SE LCi. Rear seat exactly same so didn't bother changing it over.

I think someone else will come along and school me but they're not a straight swap unless you have all of the belt buckles and the like. The centre one won't release properly unless it's changed. The last owner of my car put a different interior into it and the centre belt didn't work properly. If a tester spots it that's a straight away fail.Ive tried pushing them in but they always spring back out, just wondering if im missing something?[/quot

Good reference there. I do find the advert amusing however, as the seller harps on about the extensive list of optional extras fitted to the careBay seller said:
I think the right analogy is “fully loaded!”
He then proceeds to list the entirety of standard equipment fitted to all 335i models, with the only extras appearing to be the iDrive and leather. It's surely one of, if not the most basic spec 335i out there. It's actually poorer specced than my 330i and I consider mine to be pretty poverty spec!pmorg4 said:

Half tempted to pull the headlight washer fuse. Doing this does it only disable the motor to raise the washer or the fluid pump as well?
There's no motor to raise the washer. It operates under the pressure from the water when the pump operates. The fuse will therefore disable the pump, although I'm not sure if it has its own fuse or if it shares a fuse with other items. In the latter case you can disconnect the plug from the motor, albeit they're not very accessible in the E9x unlike previous generations.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
