Cheers - might explore these as an option too.

Has anyone got the aux belt part number for N52 325i (E91).

INA drive belt 6PK1990

Or is it one belt to rule them all?

I think any of INA, Gates, Contitech or Febi Bilstein are a good choice for the belt. You can find them with the 6PK1990 part number, or use the BMW part number quoted above.

I didn't spot previously that realoem also quoted the PK part number.

Thanks all

Deal is done to join the E91 world. I’ve started a new thread for my 335d.

I was about to advertise my E91, but I'm struggling to find an F31 with the right spec so it's staying with us for now.

Okay, we have some codes from my N53 330i, and today, some blue smoke as well. It will not be driven again until it goes to 'the man' but it would be great to get some opinions on here as to what might be the issue. I should note that the plugs, coil packs, and all six injectors (index 11) have been replaced in the last 3,000 miles.

Here are the codes:

Possibly oil getting into the combustion chambers causing the misfire, and affecting the oxygen sensor readings?

I don't know if valve stem oil seals are a particular problem on the N53.

Sure I saw on this thread a while back someone had an Minidisc radio headunit. I've been looking for one for a while without any luck naturally.

Does anyone know where is the best place to look for one? eBay in Japan doesn't really exist.

Stem seals are not a weak spot on n53, but CCV is, and will get oil into the combustion chamber

On both N53 and N52 valve stem seals harden with age due to very high running temperatures. But this should not affect driveability that much. I had them replaced on my N52 and not only had they been knackered but also the valve sleeves had gone - the too much play - duly replaced. The All this had been caused by high oil temps (oil thinning out) not helped by stupidly long oil change intervals. Now I only use 5W-40, LM Ceratec and will shortly be fitting a temperature sensor corrector to prevent DME from running the engine in low emission/ high temp mode.

Ah, thanks. I can see according to RealOEM that "The following part is absolutely vital for strut replacements: Additional shock absorber, front"

Front kit I bought (Sachs) comes with x2 front shock absorbers, x2 strut mounts, x1 dust cover kit. Rears include x2 rear shocks, x2 rear top mounts and x1 dust cover kit.

I'm assuming you mean these items?

Saw them being fiddled with as part of a YouTube tutorial.
Yep, those are the ones. My rears looked much like g3org3y's, totally disintegrated.
Just ordered these value line items from BMW now, £45.60 per side. Thanks.

Just been round to where parts are stored and the Sachs kit includes these items so I think I'm all set to tackle this job later this week!

Interesting. Not heard of them getting so bad the smoke or leak though - were yours that bad to cause smoke etc? Suprising as the same seals used on b48/b58/n54/n55/s58 and probably a few others too. My CCV went at 70k and was pulling oil into the inlet manifold and dripping into cylinders. Probably not so good for the injectors.

There was some smoke coming out but I was going to live with that. What triggered the cylinder head down job were two cylinder head bolts that had gone missing. I OK-eyed the work via telephone without having done my research first...the bolts that typically break (on all N52s) are two (of the 4 in total) aluminium ones at the front - not critical as they only secure the area over the timing chain - not the cylinders. They are made of aluminium due to magnesium being used there so as to avoid corrosion. The bolts that secure the head over the cylinders are made of steel. The aluminium bolts can be replaced WITHOUT removing the head but you need an N52 timing kit as one of the cams (I think) needs to come off. For peace of mind, I had the sump taken off and that snapped bolt head safely removed from the engine. The other snap-happy bolt sits outside - next to the oil filter housing - easily removed. On my other N52 car I can see that the outside bolt head is missing too...

Just double check they have the little metal 'tray' part. A lot of the top mount kits (and entire rear shock kits you can buy on eBay) exclude this but it almost certainly will need replacing. I've seen that you can buy them separately on ebay (or from the dealer if needed).

I think there was a thread recently where someone had intermittent running issues + blue smoke and one of the resident experts (Helix402 or Touring442 can't remember which) suggested most likely CCV.
