The 330i appeals more . It’s in a random village near Lancaster (I’m just outside London) so it will be a right old faff to get there by public transport. I will only go there if I actually have decided to buy it and have cash in hand and I will be hugely disappointed if isn’t what it seemed!

That is a bit of a mission, but if it’s a good car….

Have you spoken to the owner in person? Do they seem like a normal human being?

Shame there’s no pics of the interior of the one close. It’s got no nav which means adding stuff like CarPlay is a bit more involved (double din is the best solution). I know screens are universally hated on PH, but I’m so used to CarPlay now. Streaming and controlling music etc is much easier.

Ignoring the distance, which one appeals more?

Euston to Lancaster is a 3 hour journey IIRC

Which village outside of Lancaster is the car? Do you have a link to it?

I have spoken to the owner over facebook… genuine guy and just a normal bloke. Seems to be knowledgable about his cars and in BMW’s in general. Very well priced at 4.5 K. Has looked after his car well and has been honest.

On the other hand the owners of the E93 325 and E93 330 that I viewed were a bit weird.
The 330 seller was very suspicious of me and accused me of being a timewaster/joyrider just because I was young, no matter how many times I showed him proof of funds and insurance quotes. I may have actually bought the car if he wasn’t being a prick, but the car was cosmetically tatty anyway.

The 325 seller showcased the car parked in the back of a dodgy looking lot in Ladbroke Grove, boxed in by other cars. It was covered in bird st and grime. The seller turned up ages after I’d asked to see him. He then spouted a load of bks about how it runs like a dream and that everything works, but then I asked him to let me take it for a test drive he refused. I asked him at least to let me open the roof to see if it worked but he refused. The car itself when he turned it on it sounded like a bag of spanners. Apparently it hadnt been on sale for “at least” 4 months and it hadn’t run. He then asked me for a 1000 pound deposit to “secure” the car and I told him to jog on. Looking back it was priced ridiculously at 8000.

Just realised I was looking at the wrong car on FB. This one is nowhere near Lancaster.

This seller is from a place called Much Wenlock, that is actually not too far away I don’t think (near Telford). Just need to get a little bit more money due to having to lend a family member some money due to sudden financial changes.

That LMB car sounds like a winner then, if the guy comes across like a normal human being and honest the it’s probably a good car.

The other two sound like shady aholes, not worth wasting your time with.

Agree with this!

I'm also a snob and look at the house/background where cars are parked/have their pictures taken etc and they look fine on this one. If you do some FB stalking laugh he looks to be in the Fire Service too, so seems to be a very normal person

I'd say it's deffo worth looking at, at least!

That group has some shockers and chancers smile
There is a 335i which is an absolute dog listed up on there, with some chav plate like “Too sick g “ or some other nonsense. It’s battered!
Also the forum has a lot of valuable advice however.

I came out of that group ASAP; like a majority of groups on FB, it's full of illiterate aholes that haven't 2 pennies to rub together & they're exactly the folk you do not want to be buying a car off!

It's the same with most of the groups TBH; the E39 groups (bar the E39 Touring group because I manage it with a 12lb sledgehammer laugh ) are about the worst IMO

Full of retards

The LMB car is clearly a diamond in the rough clearly. This is the only good car I have found from the group. Trying to find a clean and reasonably priced E9x has proved to be an absolute ballache… you have the dogs with no history and then the clean cars are usually overpriced (because they’re rare). I have yet to find a single E92 with LOGIC7 fitted, though it is not a deal breaker, I would have liked as I can appreciate good sound quality.

Before I started to look at the E9x, I was initially trying to chop in my Polo for an F3x. Even that was fairly difficult as a lot of them are knackered by the time they turn 5 years old due to company car usage. Looking back spending £14,000 on a 2013 320i is insanity.

Yup; I was after a 3350 E91 or E90 saloon; needed to be an LCI and with the N55 ideally

There are a few out there, but all c£15k and I'm not spending that an on 09-10 plate when a few £k more gets me into an F3x 335i!

I just missed out on an F30 335i Luxury, that would have been a superb car

But looking at the cars & the stupid prices made me realise it wasn't the right thing to go for, that's why I've gone down the route I have with another E39 Jap import

I was reading your E39 thread earlier, didnt realise it was you smile

I love the E39, probably the best 5 series ever made and the pinnacle of BMW’s golden (in my opinion) era!
Does your E39 have the later steering wheel that waw also fitted to the E46? That was also my favourite steering wheel

It is pal and yes; it has the dual stage facelift steering wheel...

I'll be sorting a re-trimmed one from Jack at Royal Steering wheels soon; same as I had in my first E39 530i Sport

Won't be fitting the paddles though

Jack is an absolute star, He swapped over a steering wheel on my F31 (the old one had cracked leather). The wheel I gave him was a bare wheel, took him 15 minutes. He really knows his stuff. Top bloke

"Dipped beam failure" on one of the Xenons on my LCI E90. (Of course, the whole bulb is dead, so probably no full beam either.)

The bulbs have always been different colours for the whole time I"ve had the car (4½ years), one white and one yellow, so I had a feeling this would happen eventually. Can't remember which side was which, but the remaining bulb looks pretty white, so I'm figuring the dead one was probably the yellow one, and that it was old age that got it. So fingers crossed it's only the bulb, and the remaining one isn't also about to die.

The bulb change procedure looks like an annoying DIY, but the bulb lifespan does seem pretty good, so maybe that evens out. But does anybody know why this is something you're supposed to get done at a dealer? Is it just the chance of the ballast being dead rather than just the bulb, or can you actually die from touching the wrong thing?

How much should I expect to pay to have a garage do it? laugh - seems a tempting option, and perhaps I could have both bulbs changed. Looks like you don't need to take the wheels off, so with a car lift maybe 1 hour or something for both? (especially when you've done it before.) The bulbs do seem pricey by halogen standards but nothing ridiculous.

They recommend the dealer due Tom the potential high voltage at play.

I’d just get a pair of OSRAM bulbs and fit them myself.

I was always tempted to let Halfords try to fit bulbs but then always fearful of broken clips and such from a careless cackhander.

They fitted a set on Mrs Gunks old Mini, it then failed the MOT as they were in upside down rolleyes

Perfect. I feel vindicated.
