£8/side at Halfords, even for HIDs! - never thought about having bulbs fitted before. I suppose I just got lucky with all of my previous cars in terms of bulb change difficulty.

Maybe I'd chance it with them if it were winter, but at this time of year I can probably put up with a bit of pissing about outside. I watched some YouTube videos of people failing to die while changing their HID bulbs, so I'll order a couple of osram ones off Amazon and see how I get on.

Anyone with halogen projectors running with HID kit? I am. I was always so law abiding but as I got older I became more cynical and eyesight got worse smile

No, but I’ve got to say I am tempted to to fit some to my other half’s 125i because the halogens are so bad. Second hand xenon’s are getting really expensive these days so a retrofit is probably out of the question.

I had one fitted to my my S1000R motorcycle, I never had a problem getting it through the MOT, however I had problems with it so,I’ve gone back to a standard halogen light

Not sure which car Mike, but with the E39 halogen projectors, you can retrofit the OEM xenon ballasts, D2S xenon bulbs using a D2S to H7 adapter and it makes a world of difference and it's nigh on OEM, so no issues with MOT at all.

Could be worth looking into if you can do similar with your car

Just need to make sure that the headlight adjusters work as they should and that the headlights are pointing in the right direction etc

Do they still not need headlamp washers?

No; rules are if it's not fitted, it cannot be tested

I still have a lot from retrofitlab on the shelf for the 325i. The hardest part is splitting the lenses from the lights- the process varies across halogen/xenon and pre/post lci. The lci halogens I have seem to be the hardest to do! I just need to plan some time and get full on with the heat gun…

Right. Hopefully picking up the LMB E92 330i posted earlier on Thursday, assuming everything goes well. Due to sudden financial changes I have to try and find a family member willing to lend me a small amount money in the short term and I am going to use my 2 year, 0% overdraft (perks of being a student aye?) as well. The car is in Telford. Realistically I should wait 3 weeks until my next pay check and buy the car in cash, but some serious man maths is going to have to go on to have the perfect car… in time for a camping trip in the Dales where I can give it a good hoon around some fantastic roads!

It’s funny how quickly life can change, only a month ago I was preparing to buy a £14k car (admittedly on finance) now I am scraping pennies together to get a 4k car…

Anyway enough lamenting here are the pics

Each to their own, but isn’t that a bit of an old man’s car for young 20 something. When I was 20 all I wanted was a 205 GTi or a Golf GTi

Probably. But then I would say I am quite a boring old sod for someone my age biggrin

For my admittedly very particular set of requirements, and for what I could afford (that wasn’t too old) it was probably the least boring (barring a MK5 GTI, but then the ones I found were all rusty). After all, wouldn’t you say it is less boring than a CLK or an Audi A5?

Maybe, but I had been working long hours delivering vegetables around Britain to supplement my income when I wasn’t in a lecture or doing coursework. This allows me to have a bit of fun smile

I think my 4k would have gone on a Clio 197

I have my reasons for why I want a 330i over a 197

The world would be quite a boring place if we all liked the same things smile

Thats was what I had when I switched to a 330 10yrs ago. Admittedly I was 34 though. I never did gel with mine - despite a history of love for hot Clios
