If you are the owner of the silver 535d, on the A52 this evening just outside Derby, that is one quick motor you have there. Swine!
It caught me napping and the Beemer was gone in a flash, the Monaro needing quite a way before it pegged back the diesel.
When we were back together, I had to take another look at the badge, I kept thinking it was going to say 'M5', but no, it was a flamin' oil burner.
Once again, nice quick motor mate!

Never though I'd see the day when I fancied an oil burner, but, yup I really fancy all that torque

Um convinced my mate to buy one, a 535d Sport Touring with all the options, Pano roof, Comms pack, Head up display etc etc.

I think on a 4 year lease it works out at about £770 a month which isn't bad, no deposit, max balloon etc.

Throw in another 1K for the DMS upgrade and who needs a M5!!

Exactly. Book numbers on the 535d saloon are 272 BHP, 413 lb ft, 155 mph, 6.5s 0 - 60mph and 35.3 combined mpg.

In my view, astonishing numbers.

Yes had one of those things stuck to the bumper of my 540 sport the other week, very quick.

Dunno about that.
They are fetching just about list price, for 3 month old cars at the moment.
The 530d will suffer the residual problems far more, as it is nearly as expensive, but not nearly as good as the 535d.

The current crop of 3.0 diesels are the best selling used BMWs.

Slap on the DMS chip and hey presto; 320 bhp and about 470 lb ft

Astonishing doesn't even come close, why can't any other manufacturers seem able (yet) to build such stunning performers. All BMW cars seem to punch well above their weight in terms of performance.

According to DMS it's more like 340bhp and over 500lbft of torque. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhaaaaa!!

Going to get the LR3 chipped at the same time. The 0-60 drops by 3 seconds, but sadly nowhere near as quick as the 535d, 9 secs to 60!!

I can't find any figures off the DMS website, the figures I quoted were from BMW Car magasine, who recently road tested the car.

Either way it will blow your socks off. I seem to recall that over 500 lb ft torque, whilst within the engineering tolerances of the engine, exceeds the torque limit of the manual gearbox and perhaps other driveline components, however I am unsure if this same restriction applies to the automatic.

Sounds interesting. An auto box is usually much stronger though. The 1000hp supra's tend to go auto in fact.

But reduced engine life ?

I think a tweek of 10% on my original numbers would be acceptable by a third party chip.

Surely BMW build in a safety margin to ensure product longevity.

Quote from DMS:-

"Only details incorrect in Autocar and BMW Car for the 535D are the power and torque figures. Figures given are below what is actually achieved. Power goes up to 334 bhp and torque to 506 lb/ft."

Insurance, assuming you're going to be honest and declare the mods, is a PITA for modified cars though. Worth getting some quotes first in my experience...
