A couple of years ago I had a recall to check / replace the passenger airbag on my 325ti Compact.

This morning I got a letter from BMW UK telling me there is a recall to check / replace the driver's airbag so I thought it may help to make people aware of it!

FWIW mine had a build date of 20/08/02 and is on a 52 plate.

Got mine (driver's side) thus morning too, having had the passenger one done 2yrs ago. Also got one for my wife's Honda, spoke to my local dealer for that to find they are on back order.

Seems to,be an expensive bit of rework for the manufacturers!

I had the driver's side replaced earlier this year? It was in for a service anyway, but...

I had the recall for passenger side (03/03 build, E46 330d), but haven't had anything for drivers yet...

Had both of mine done earlier in the year, no letter though as car was new to me. Took it in and asked having read about it elsewhere on here.

03 330Ci Clubsport.

Fairly certain they marked my silver cube trim doing it but annoyingly didn't notice until too late. Also add that I got the impression they weren't interested in me or my old car and didn't rate their service at all. Driver's airbag was incorrectly fitted at the first attempt as well with a massive gap down one side.

Sadly put me off ever going back there for servicing or parts and wouldn't give them a second look for a newer car now.

Old news. I had my second airbag switched back in March. It's a long process affecting a lot of cars.

This. I had mine changed back in December!

It affects cars fitted with Takata airbags. It also affects the E39. Going by Wikipedia it's not the first time Takata have screwed things up.

From the Takata wiki:

"The issue itself has only been shown to affect vehicles in hot and humid locations. However, all potentially affected vehicles have been recalled as a precaution. No evidence of the issue has been seen in the UK and Europe"

I reckon I'm OK in Reading!

Might be old news to some but the first I'd heard about it was when the letter arrived today

That's why I posted it - I hadn't seen anything about it until I got the letter.

Even if it only makes 1 person aware it was worth it! thumbup

Well, I wasn't aware of a second recall until the letter arrived a week ago...now booked in to have it done a week on Monday...Let's hope that this dealer is a little more careful than the last as the last time it was in they broke the nearside air vent slats and the dash was poorly refitted...
