The 335d LCI does seem to have a better suspension setup than the pre LCI so worth considering when looking to buy. I test drove a pre LCI when I ordered my car which did feel pretty soft. I've had my 67 plate for a month now and it feels more composed than the test drive. It does roll a little, but I don't recognise the major issues people keep saying exist with the xdrive set up.
As for emissions I'd imagine any overhaul of tax/charges will not be a matter of diesel vs petrol. Petrol cars still have their issues. What needs to change is the testing of cars to make sure lab tests reflect real world. Some models get close to their stated emissions on the road, others fail miserably. But I’d doubt the replacement will have the diesel option either sadly. Diesel is now deeemed dead as a fuel due to its damaging emissions.
So really if you want a fast diesel buy a F10 535d remap it to 390bhp then change the turbos taking you to beyond 500bhp perfect. But then the gearbox will be beyond its max torque rating....

Ultimately diesel (and petrol) cars will be discontinued, but they are a very long way from being dead. The vast majority of large BMW sales in the UK are diesel, and for good reason. I think BMW estimated that 90 or 95% of G30 sales in the UK would be diesel.Diesel is now deeemed dead as a fuel due to its damaging emissions.

I can certainly imagine an increased use of adblue and other systems to remove NOx and particulates, but it's too early to phase out diesel. The particulate emissions from large petrol engines are becoming more of an issue, and I imagine it won't be long until those without petrol particulate filters will be stigmatised too.
I already have a faster car than a 535d
although it's a keeper, so I'm not about to tinker with it and shorten its life.335d said:

They may do but public sentiment changes things dramatically - hence no 535d replacement and be 550d we were promised in RHD is cancelled too. They are selling both a 540d and a 550d - just not in the UK. M550d has never been available here.They are really pulling out of diesel
Diesel sales are on their arse too in Germany so it’s not going to be long before they stop that model there too.
You have a F10 535i Fox anyway so this being good news for you.

I haven't tried a 540i, but I have heard some mixed views. I'm sure it's a pretty good engine but larger cars tend to suit the effortless shove of diesel in my view. The reviews I have seen, even from performance orientated magazines, appear to favour the 530d over the 540i. I hear the 540i is excellent though and frugal too so not too bad.
I guess I really should try one. It sounds like 30mpg is typical, which is bearable I guess. I don't think the 540i has a particulate filter though, and I guess it won't be long until the media jump on the petrol particulate bandwagon.
60mpg is very impressive, smashy. I can't imagine getting near that with a 35d. I guess in similar conditions you might see high 30s from a 540i.
Living in very rural England, a long way from London, I have yet to sense any diesel hatred. Perhaps it will come. SUVs are common and 99% are diesel. Petrol is for lawnmowers,cheap hatchbacks and sports cars, the rest are diesel.
