BMW tell me they are still investigating! Hope this means they are trying to get to the bottom of what happened rather than fob me off?

Why does it matter if it wasn't a manufacturing defect, or if the AUC check doesn't look for this fault
It was a fault categorically present at the time of purchase so why should it be your responsibility

I don't go anywhere near main dealers to buy cars because of this 'lack of responsibility' attitude towards their customers.
I don't think they & their warranties are worth the extra money and would rather buy an older car for less money that is guaranteed to have / develop a few faults that I know I will be responsible for, but that is built into the purchase price

Wife's Evoque similar story to above, tried everything to wriggle out of paying for a blatant design fault.

Tell them they can investigate as much as they want but to give you the £550 they owe you. Remind them on Twitter and Facebook (I'd have hit that already when problems started to rear their ugly head).

IANAL but I do know Twitting companies works.

From my experience with BMW dealers "looking into it" or "investigating" means they hope you'll give up.

Really? There's a bog-standard response from most companies "PM us your details and we'll look into it". Then they ignore any attempts by the customer to continue the conversion on social media.

Sure. Just keep pestering publically if things don't go very well.

Maybe when it's first raised but a week later?

I'll give a fiver to charity if BMW pay out from the warranty (not a goodwill payment)! It's not a fault it's damage and not warranty claimable. Same situation as a kerbed alloy. That's not covered by warranty.

Latest is that BMW have told the selling dealer to pay up. The selling dealer asked for my bank details to make a transfer which I gave but money has not landed as yet (2 days later). I was going to wait till end of next banking day before chasing. I had hoped to close this thread once I was reimbursed but will do so when the money is in my account.
Hopefully my faith In BMW will be restored!
