Service manager is checking BMW's stance. He said if rears need replacing "BMW should stump up for them." We'll see...

BMW are replacing the perfectly good rear P7s with PZeros at their cost, as well as matching my tyre retailer's price for the fronts (I pay just for those). Fitting them tomorrow.

Result!

Now, should I be cheeky and ask to retain the 1/4 worn rear P7s to re-sell as part-worn?
As they're super rare now they might go for a premium!

...Would I get a slap!?

I’ve got the same dilemma. Front P7s are due for renewal. I was thinking of getting the all season P7 Cinturatos (RF) fitted but am a bit unsure if these would be considered compatible with the current ‘summer’ P7 Cinturatos (non RF) fitted to the rear.

I've always understood, never mix RF's and non RF's on any car.

Was advised by my tyre expert to get all 4 the same on the X1 and the * marked BMW spec. tires only. Known problems on X vehicles if this advice isn't adhered to. he said, BMW said, Pirelli agreed.
I got the Pirelli P Zeros.

Makes sense, think i’ll bite the bullet and get 4x the all season P7s. One of my rears is nearing replacement so it won’t be such a hit.

Anyone have any experience of all season tyres? I’m a big fan of winters but want to avoid the storage / changeover hassle.

Last winter was my first with a Xdrive and with good summer tires I had no problems ; I avoided only the worst of Storm Emma.

I've had winters on RWD coupes, so know how good they are.

I'd consider all seasons if they were available to spec but question whether they add enough value in the niche between where they're better in the poor conditions than summers (plus X drive) and the point where you really need winters or should stay in bed wink

That niche has got to be significant to overcome the fact all seasons likely won't perform as well as a summer tire in drier conditions, particularly as I drive the X1 hard and thus benefit from a performance summer tire.

What are the known problems?

Skidding, lack of traction. I was impressed with X drive.
I remembered this video and how good my winters were on an old E46, the last time the winter was as bad.

We tried a RF fitted X1 before ordering. On 19s the RF ride was unbearably jiggly. Hence the insistence on non-RFs.

If anyone needs two P7 non-RF they're sitting in my garage. 6mm+ I'd say. PM me?
