BMW 330 m sport
Discussion
Hi, Can anybody help me please, I am looking at buying a 2009 BMW 330i m sport but it has a 2.5 engine in it, every time I put the reg into a data base it comes up as a 330 m sport. I it is being sold buy a car dealer that has a lot of showrooms around the country, they have even sent me a photo copy of the log book which says 2.5, BMW has done a search on the car and it comes up as a 330 even my insurance company has looked into it and its a 330. Has anybody heard of a 330i with a 2.5 engine because I have not. I own a 323 with a 2.5 engine. Thanks a lot for any help.

The 330i changed in 2007 from a 2.5 to 3.0 from memory. I would hazard a guess that your car may have been built prior to the change but registered afterwards.
I thought the 325 was a 3-litre around that time, like the 125 coupe ( 218bhp 3-litre rather than the full fat 265bhp version in the 130 hatch )Thanks guys for getting back to me.I have a 323 which has a 325 engine the car I want to buy is a 330i m sport with a 2.5 engine I have never heard of this it seems back to front. The log book say's 2.5 when it should say 2494cc? it was registered in September 2009, surely it cannot have been built for 2 years before registering , I am at my wits end with this it has totally baffled me. lol

I had an E90 325i which was a 218bhp 2.5 engine. This was on a 56 plate. I thought the 325 and 330 from 2007 onwards were all 3 litres but the 325 was de-tuned.
Either way, I'm sure the 330 was always a 3 litre.
Edited to add, it's no wonder we've no clue with BMW after they changed from naming their cars by engine size like the good old days!

A 330i of that time should be a 3.0L (2996cc). If you are considering buying the car find the engine code and make sure this is the correct engine, check this with the vin. You should be able to then find that car on the systems with BMW themselves.
Sometimes information on the V5 can be wrong and some previous owners don't bat and eye lid. If it is a genuine car it may just be a error in the databases.
