Good point and thank you - ideally I want a 335 - I am of that age you know!

But in all seriousness, the AWD is v high on the list - I had a A6 Quattro a while back and really liked the assurance it gives.

I want also - leather, Rear camera, and pro media. Budget £25K so might have to travel about to source this!
Whereabouts are you? I'm teetering in the edge of selling mine which has all the bits you ask for (and more besides!)

Pre LCI 15:

Pre LCI 14 high miles but FBMWSH and clearly just cruised the motorways:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

I'd have taken either of those.

Probably the latter.

Given even the LCI isn't a 'fun' car (I doubt even the M cars on F30 platform are properly fun, unless they have hydraulic steering), and I have a second funner car, this wasn't a biggie for me.

But in your case deffo try both pre/post LCI and see on steering and ride etc.

If you can't tell/don't care I'd save my money.

Can you live with 335I

Have a 135I & a 535d (wifes)
The 535d is quick, but the engine is much nicer in the 135
Mpg wise we Get 38 vs 31 in the lighter petrol car

Also worth checking out the 5 series as they Are much nicer inside than a 3
Have more kit and are about the same price

Xdrive aside and the fact an F30 isn't hugely inspiring to drive, I'm increasingly wondering if an older 640d GC would have been better.

Plus I can't see the values dropping hugely after 3yrs, there aren't too many around, and they're a lot of car for the money.

I'm very tempted to try one out.

I seem to remember a web site that you are able to see what equipment was fitted to a particular car...: optional extras etc.

Or did I imagine it?

It was one of many BMW VIN decoder sites.

example attached, don't know if it was the best : just first that googled wink

Example if link works is a M3 a mate bought. Click on grey box VIN decoder to start afresh.

Looks nice, I feel the touring’s need sun protection glass/tints though, my next car will probably also be a 335d touring, possibly a 340i, let us know your thoughts once you’ve had a few days with it

I had 2 tourings as loan cars , both with privacy glass ; with the dark interiors they were very gloomy.

Privacy and light interiors maybe

I don’t think they do need tints, but then I don’t deal drugs these days either hehe

I have a 340i T on 18s, bought as a replacement for a 335i SE saloon on 17s.

The 335 is more comfortable, the steering is better, it makes a nicer noise that you can actually hear (how novel)!

The 340 is mostly quieter (you can barely hear the engine but tyre roar is awful - this may just be RFTs) it feels quicker, gearbox is very good, pan roof is nice, handles better (although the ride is much firmer due to Adaptive M Sport Suspension and RFT). The Harman Kardon isn’t as ‘refined’ as the Harman speaker system in the E90; the F3x system suffers from separation issues but has a lot more bass.

I’m sat on the fence. I was intending to sell my E90 now I have the F31. But I’m not going to, for now. I may even seek out a very late low mile E9x car in due course, but continue to run the E90 in the meantime (LCI on 53k) and sell the F31. I haven’t really decided yet. But if anyone wants a 340i they’re welcome to get in touch for an unbiased opinion!

That said, the F31 is growing on me. So I’m going to persevere with it; I am sure a set of decent tyres will put some of my complaints to bed. It’s become a better all round car but less of a drivers car, if that makes sense.

Which, if any, of the newer BMWs have decent steering and a compliant ride (once RFT swapped)?

The tyre roar is largely symptomatic of the crap roads in the UK rather than the car itself I think. Of the 30k miles on mine at the moment, 7 of those have been in Europe and the car is virtually transformed once you're on decent roads, it really is a pleasant place to sit. Trouble is, I don't live in Yerp and I have found myself seriously thinking about getting rid of the F31 because of the horrendous noise. That concreted section around the M25 is just laughable although I rather suspect that BMW drivers are not alone.

Tyre roar was a problem in my E90 until I swapped out for GY F1 non-RFTs. Now I'm not suggesting that these are the absolute in terms of comfort and noise as I just don't have the 'seat time' experience of many many different brands of tyre, but they were a massive improvement over a set of not-particularly-worn (4-5mm) Continental SSR RFT.

I haven't much recent experience of driving in Europe so I can't make comparisons; I guess it's just a case of trying to minimise the problem for the UK roads. I've been reading a lot of reviews and trying to determine the quietest tyre for the car before I expend £450-650 on a set.
