Evening,

I’m due to pick up an October 2016 registered (Sept 16 build) M140i on Tuesday this week and have a question; it has the following options:

Optional equipment list.
ZM1B F20 M140i 5-door Sports Hatch B58 3.0i
475 Black Sapphire Metallic
LCSW Black Dakota leather
Active from 31/10/2016 to 30/10/2021
258 Run-flat tyres
4GD High-gloss Black interior trim with Oxide
420 Sun protection glass
494 Seat heating. front
5AC High-beam Assistant
552 Adaptive LED Headlights with Matrix function
674 Harman Kardon - Hi-Fi
Z0A Driver comfort package
508 Park Distance Control (PDC). front and rear

Now, the dealer told me that the Adaptive LED did the full beam splitting magic but all the threads I can find on the subject suggest that this isn’t true? I’m wondering if that’s the ‘matrix function’ that is listed?

Can anyone advise what functionality my car will have?

Kind regards

David

If you're buying it from Soper of Lincoln, it's my old car; certainly, it's the exact same specification, and the dates are the same.

As for the Adaptive LEDs .... the beams don't split, no 'voodoo' lights, just basic high beam assist.

It was a great car, and gave me no problems at all. It's very recently had its first service, and has a BMW Service Inclusive pack, valid for 5 years and 60,000 miles from new - unlike the currently offered 3 years and 36,000 miles. In the 20,429 miles I drove in it, it averaged 30.0 mpg, no matter how it was driven.

I only part exchanged it because I needed to return to an SUV .... so took delivery of a new X3 30d M Sport last Thursday.

I've got the V5 for its current registration, because I removed my private registration from it. I'm taking it to Soper at 8.30am on Tuesday.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

That’s great to hear, thank you so much for taking the time to type that, it’s really nice to know it’s a goodun. I just hope the snow doesn’t stop me making the 170 mile trip to collect it on Tuesday.

Congratulations on your new car; I hope it’s as good to you as the 140 was smile

Meant to mention, I replaced the rear tyres on 9 December 2017 - but the fronts are still fine: matching Bridgestone runflats all round.

Also, I removed the standard black tailpipe trims and replaced them with BMW chrome tips - because the latter contrast nicely with the black paintwork; however, if you would like, I could leave the black tips at the dealership tomorrow when I visit to handover the V5.

Thanks Derek, that would be very kind. I did notice the tips in the video they sent me and wondered why they weren’t black. If you could leave the black tips that would be very kind and would give me the choice. Thank you.

Thanks also for the information re tyres, I’m a bit sad and OCD with vehicle provenance so any information is much appreciated.

Out of interest, what sort of use has the car had? Eg is it all road miles or has it seen any trackdays etc?

Thanks again

Dave

Hi Dave ..... no track days, just spirited road driving; it's been a pleasure to own it and has been cared for. I ran it in properly for 1,200 miles, restricting the RPM and only enjoying those once warm, and it has paid dividends: it's not used any oil - whereas many, thrashed from new, have required regular top-ups; and, when changed at the first service, the oil was still showing full and surprisingly clean after around 19,000 miles at the time.

amongst the many cars I've owned - including 7 Porsches, it rates near the top; it really is the perfect balance of space, handling and performance. Whilst many will decry my view that a mere 1 Series can eclipse proper Porsche sports cars (not the current 4 cyclinder turbos), I think that you'll be smitten with its flexibility and enjoy the intoxicating acceleration (although, perhaps not, given you ride performance bikes like the R1).

Thanks Derek, that’s really good to know. I too always ensure my cars are nice and warm before using the upper half of the rev range so it’s good to know that this one has been treated properly too.

I’ve been hankering for one of these for a while and originally intended to go for a sub 10k mile example but this one looked really tidy and well looked after before they’d even valeted it so that combined with the specification and service pack convinced me.

I’ve driven a few of these now and the acceleration surprised me, though I’m yet to drive a manual as most seem to be Auto which is a bit of a shame, you can’t beat a manual in a performance car IMHO.

Weather permitting, I’ll be travelling up tomorrow with a friend in his Golf R so it should make for an entertaining drive back if the roads are clear.

Thanks

David

I hope you had a good drive home from Lincoln, and that Matt gave you the black tips.

If you PM me your surname and address, I've got an unused bottle of touch up paint for the wheels, if you'd like it.

That’s very kind, thank you! I’ll drop you a PM now.

Had a long day, the bank transfer got delayed so I spent 4hrs sat in Sopers waiting for it to arrive before I could drive away! Only just got home.

Ha! They offered me plenty of coffee but I was there to collect a car so hardly surprising!
