I have had mine for a week now (ex DP car), its great fun. A good mix of space and performance, mine too is on Yokos and has the mobility kit.

On thing i would recommend you check is the Cargo Net mine was spec'ed with one but was delivered without.

I have noticed that mine will not pop and bang like the youTube vids, its a Sept 18 car.

Just reading through this.

I have an M240i convertible but drove an X3 M40i yesterday and liked it. I can't say loved it as the engine is the same as mine and I'd had the roof down on the M240i which is not a fair way to compare .... but quite tempted.

I have no need for the space but loved the height, comfort and the fact I can spec radar cruise !

Might be an order for post summer delivery - but the new car road tax is a killer !!!

I have both - can't say i'd swap the M240 for the X3 if i didn't need the space.

Admittedly my M240i (coupe) is for work, and the X3 is my family bus (kids in the back, dog in the boot, bikes on the towbar, etc.).
Love the X3 for what it is, but the M240 is way more fun to drive.

Also what fuel is everyone using in these. The TVR only runs on Shell or Tesco Momentum and my partners M240i runs much better on the same. Noticed the filler cap said 95 Ron with the demo car, any benefits from the higher octane or negatives when using 95?
Massive difference on these running 98 or 99 ron.

Tesco 99 is great and often no more money wise than 95 shell.

There is around 30hp drop when you use 95 compared with official figures, 95 is fine and can be used no problem, but you lose out power wise and MPG wise.

My 335i was around 3mpg better on 99 ron, and I put it on the rolling road running 95 and 99 and there was just over 30hp on the 95, you could also feel how much more sprightly it felt on 99.

It needs to be just 99 though for the knock sensors to switch maps properly, normally takes 2-3 tanks of 99 for that to happen, where as it will only take half a tank for it to knock back.

I found Tesco 99 worked out slightly cheaper than 95 ron due to the MPG gains plus the car felt so much nicer too. No brainer.

Interesting and thanks for the comment.

The wife has a company car she may lose due to a regrading (good but loses car). I retire next year so may just buy an X3 M40i and keep the M240i as opposed to trade it. Lucky position due to pension but you only live once as they say :-)

VerySIdeways is right. My partner had a M240, such a nice size and great fun, just not quite practicable enough for our lifestyle. So we did the only sensible thing which was to buy the X3 M40i, which does everything and a M2 Competition just to balance the fun side of the equation a little more. (The only sensible thing would actually have been to order a X3M, but that's for another day.)

Had both cars just over a week now with each car meeting their objectives fully, although the M2 is yet to have the full beans due to needing to put 1200 miles into and then the first service will be done.

So where's the x3 M40d thread then :P?

Went down the route of ordering a x3 m40d, as our "household" daily driver. I don't drive in the week, and my mrs. drives everyday, so we needed something which was special enough for me to enjoy when i do drive, plus sensible enough for the mileage.

I am very impressed with the car, absolutely rapid for a diesel (the performance difference between the m40i and the m40d is minute) and on absolute terms.

Having said that, the mrs. has now decided she wants her own car, so i now own a diesel to drive at the weekends!

Just to bookend this thread - car is now with me, having been collected on Wednesday and taken to Autocurators for PPF and ceramic.
Got it home yesterday.

Only 100 miles in so far, but very pleased.

Did you PPF the entire car? And does it make cleaning it a lot easier. I assume they paint corrected beforehand too?

Literally picked the car up from TRL at Berry Heathrow and drove to Basingstoke to drop off with Autocurators.
Transport film was removed before i collected but Berry did NOT wash the car.
So once at Autocurators it was washed, corrected, etc. and then the front bumper and bonnet were PPF'd and the whole car ceramic coated.
I use their wheel cleaner and snow foam and it takes 20 minutes to do the whole car - though i need a step to reach the roof biggrin

Thanks for the details. I had a Carbon Black M3 which was stunning but the paint was a nightmare. I seem to pick up a lot of road tar on the lower sills/doors too. I need to look into weather your treatment would greatly reduce the effort in removing this sort of grime

Massively reduces how much sticks in the first place, and also makes it that much easier to remove.
They do something which is a "quick detailer" spray which is what i use for the rare bits of tar which stick.

Hi All,

Looking at changing to the M40i, spec looks like:

Comfort package, storage package, m-sport plus package, sunroof and a few other bits.

If I spec the technology package i lose the digital dashboard and only get part digital ? Can anyone with the technology package advise?

Thanks

Why would technology lose the digital cockpit. All it comprises is Harmon, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, gesture control and HUD. I was just quoted over 11k discount.

How are people finding these a couple years on? My friend is deliberating over this and a m340i

I bought my M40i to replace my M240i convertible ... I love it ! Had it 13 months now and no regrets (In fact just bought winter wheels for it - getting in early before the rush!).

It is not as capable as my M240i - as has been commented above by others, it is not something you can throw around in the same comfortable way ... yet the raised driving position makes up for the weight IMO. It is a delight to drive and the engine a peach. The 21" wheels and adaptive suspension are better than my passive suspension M240i ever was !!

Build is brilliant - not one rattle or creak and the quality of the (in mine) uprated leather is a dream. It is very comfortable indeed. I've just done Devon to London and didn't really notice the journey.

I love the looks, the colour Phytonic (?) Blue, the bigger wheels, the engine (I knew I'd love that), the suspension, comfort ... fuel economy for me was 21mpg in town (all the time) but now 28mpg used in town and on runs ...

Space is good in it (unsurprising I guess).

The only thing I don't like is the screen wash filler which is stupid and has an almost horizontal pipe !

I've used it off road for a half mile trek over fields and through a forest on gravel / mud / grass and associated inclines with ease.

Mine is a OPF model so slightly less power 354hp ... and no pops and bangs - but I hate them tbh. I'm 55 and pops and bangs to me need to be on a V8 TVR, not a BMW.

The three cars I'd look at if I was in the market ... M340i touring (favourite), M2 Comp, M5 Comp .... nowt else !

Try one ...

Luke.

Me too. But after an X5, Cayenne and now an XC60, think I'm swaying towards the Touring.
