I've configured mine (F25) so that when I go into sport it only does the gearbox and Sport+ then adds the stiffer suspension. Gives the better response with the 'normal' suspension, which I find is a better compromise for everyday use.
That's what i did on my 340i and i suspect i'll do the same on the X3 when it arrives.
Great minds, or fools... you choose biggrin

Just to bookend this thread - car is now with me, having been collected on Wednesday and taken to Autocurators for PPF and ceramic.
Got it home yesterday.

Only 100 miles in so far, but very pleased.

Looks great! It’s a really good car, especially in sports mode! Did you use Auto Curators in Hook? Paul did our X3 too.
Yup, asked TRL to do minimal prep so i could pick the car up "dirty" and Autocurators did a fantastic job with the PPF and ceramic.
Really enjoying it so far, not even 300 miles in yet!

Parking's easy if you have the surround view cameras - in fact i think the surround view comes with some self parking functionality, not that i've tried that yet.
Definitely feels more wieldy and narrower on the road than my F11 535i, and feels much more agile and much less cumbersome than the F15 X5 (and thus i would extrapolate your X6).
Much more spacious inside than my F31 340i wagon too, and much more upmarket/luxurious.

Get a test drive. They're really good.

I've got 3k miles on mine now - very happy, though the exhaust isn't as good as the 2018 models (mine's a MY2019, with the gasoline particulate filter).
Other than that, it's awesome.
Very comfy when required, very fast and fun when the opportunity arises. And much better than the 340iT it replaced in every respect.

On winter 19's:

Yeah, those figures are just plain wrong, sorry.
Like-for-like use, M40i should be seeing 26/28 and M40d around 36/38.
Both will do better on the motorway and both will do worse in short journeys and with hilly terrain.
On a fast run the 40d gets 31mpg and the 40i gets 23mpg, on a long motorway trek the 40d gets 41mpg and the 40i gets around 33mpg (from my not-very-scientific testing) which means a real world difference of around 10mpg.

Which still means a £4.5k difference over your 80k mile projection, but it'll take me more than 6 years to do 80k miles!
Personally i don't like the power delivery on the diesel, i hate filling up with diesel, and i don't like the smell of it burning either, and i also don't want to have to deal with DPF's or paying more for entering or parking in certain cities.

But the world is an interesting place because we're all different smile

I don’t like diesel either

BUT I do like money and I’d rather have it in my pocket than in the local petrol stations
Fair comment - but then shouldn't you be driving a Prius or a Tesla?

Sorry, just playing devil's advocate biggrin

Mind you, there's an iX3 coming in the next 12 months i think... best of both worlds?

My point was however, if the diesel gets say 5-7mpg more than the petrol the overall ownership costs are going to be so minimal for someone doing 12,000 miles a year that it really doesn't come into it.
Definitely agree with this - although it would appear that the M40d is getting better fuel economy than the plain jane 30d... which is also interesting. Admittedly both 3.0 six cylinder diesels, but different turbo configuration and/or state of tune.

I'm just coming up on 6k miles and it gets better every day.
The noise is improving, the fuel consumption is improving, the ride is improving (though will get even better when i ditch the Pirelli's for a set of Mich PS4S non-RFT) and it's just doing everything so well. Quiet and comfy for the family, but also fun to hustle on country roads when i need to be somewhere.

Sadly i don't really get up at 5am to just go for a drive anymore, mainly because of my job but also because i have kids - but on those occasions when i'm on my own in the car and can have some fun it's way more fun than my 340i was. Not quite as much fun as my M240i, but then i can't put the family and the dog in the M240i and carry bikes on the towbar...

I’ve never had a car with such a quiet cabin. It’s all down to the acoustic glass...there’s a huge difference between windows up and windows down when in sport mode. I still haven’t heard what it sounds from the outside driving past, I’m sure it sounds good.

For me, I'm always surprised how this big car can drive like a small one. It’s so nimble around the corners with minimal body roll, it really has changed the game for SUVs.
I'll PM you in the other place regarding the noise thumbup

A couple of guys on another forum enquired and got quoted just under £3k for the electrically deployed one.
You can get a simple detachable one from somewhere like PF Jones, and buy the dedicated wiring kit, and have it all fitted by a professional for under £1k.

Factory fitted towbar gives you a towing weight of 2400kg on the V5, whereas fitting one after the fact will only give you 2000kg on the V5.

Hmm that's interesting thanks - for 2k I am quite capable of taking off the towbar and putting it in the boot wink although why the difference in towing capacity? - I heard stories of some retrofitting people making a right mess of the car structurally...
Towing capacity is tied to the VIN at the factory - i can only assume that the factory tow package includes some additional strengthening or cooling to allow the higher limit.
The aftermarket detachable is actually less visible when detached than the factory towbar when stowed, so in that respect it's better. Thankfully the factory option was only £750, there's no way i'd have paid £2k let alone £3k for the retrofit.

Just reading through this.

I have an M240i convertible but drove an X3 M40i yesterday and liked it. I can't say loved it as the engine is the same as mine and I'd had the roof down on the M240i which is not a fair way to compare .... but quite tempted.

I have no need for the space but loved the height, comfort and the fact I can spec radar cruise !

Might be an order for post summer delivery - but the new car road tax is a killer !!!
I have both - can't say i'd swap the M240 for the X3 if i didn't need the space.

Admittedly my M240i (coupe) is for work, and the X3 is my family bus (kids in the back, dog in the boot, bikes on the towbar, etc.).
Love the X3 for what it is, but the M240 is way more fun to drive.

Did you PPF the entire car? And does it make cleaning it a lot easier. I assume they paint corrected beforehand too?
Literally picked the car up from TRL at Berry Heathrow and drove to Basingstoke to drop off with Autocurators.
Transport film was removed before i collected but Berry did NOT wash the car.
So once at Autocurators it was washed, corrected, etc. and then the front bumper and bonnet were PPF'd and the whole car ceramic coated.
I use their wheel cleaner and snow foam and it takes 20 minutes to do the whole car - though i need a step to reach the roof biggrin

Thanks for the details. I had a Carbon Black M3 which was stunning but the paint was a nightmare. I seem to pick up a lot of road tar on the lower sills/doors too. I need to look into weather your treatment would greatly reduce the effort in removing this sort of grime
Massively reduces how much sticks in the first place, and also makes it that much easier to remove.
They do something which is a "quick detailer" spray which is what i use for the rare bits of tar which stick.
