There was a build slot free in December from a cancelled order, Feb/March otherwise.

Ah nice one, roll on October then!

I went fully loaded, everything pretty much bar the auxiliary heating. I did go for the 20" wheels though rather than the 21's just to make it a bit more comfortable as the roads round my way are shocking.

What colour/spec is yours?

I posted the upside down picture on the previous page. I've now had a chance to drive the car a few times and I have to say I'm really impressed. It replaced a previous gen X3 30d which we have had for 6 years and I think is itself a very good car the new one is definitely an improvement.

The engine is very smooth with a nice rumble and pulls well. It definitely likes to be revved as well and is deceptively fast. It's much quieter on the move which I'm sure is partly not being diesel and partly the acoustic glass, and the ride is much smoother than the previous car.

Interior is much nicer than the F25 - it feels more luxurious, like a small X5 and the tech is very good, particularly the sat-nav.

Economy - no idea but my wife says she hasn't had to fill it up any more often than the 30d (but she does mainly short journeys so not ideal diesel work). I did a 1 hour motorway run recently and pretty sure it was in the 30s.

Only things slight negatives - BMW electric steering still isn't very good (but works better with 4wd than 2 in my view) but perfectly adequate for this type of car and I find the throttle a little spongy when the revs drop down low eg slow for a roundabout then hit the gas - i think it's a combination of lag and gear box. Again, only a minor point and easy to drive around.

Overall I really like it and think the X3 is a really good car that has been hugely improved is this latest iteration.

I went with comfort pack, towbar, pan roof, HK, enhanced bluetooth, adaptive dampers, and a few other bits.
Phytonic with oyster.
Also went with the 20's for the same reason rofl

Thanks for that thumbup

Just a point to note - the hesitancy thing annoyed me too, but disappears if you put it in sport, sport+, or adaptive (from my admittedly short test drive experience).

Very nice. Think the adaptive dampers and 20” wheels is a good move.

I've configured mine (F25) so that when I go into sport it only does the gearbox and Sport+ then adds the stiffer suspension. Gives the better response with the 'normal' suspension, which I find is a better compromise for everyday use.

That's what i did on my 340i and i suspect i'll do the same on the X3 when it arrives.

Looking at getting rid of the the 435i and the Range Rover Sport and ordering an M40i.

I'd really like an X5 but it's quite a bit more.

The X3 used to look awful but BMW have done a good job of making it look like a mini X5.

Which options are a 'must have'? Will I be missing anything essential if I went for Comfort/M Sport Plus/Tech Packages? Panoramic roof seems expensive.

IMHO I'd say the adaptive suspension is a must have, its only £500 odd as well.

This was quite a good review https://youtu.be/kaxKB2sRYRY

I was in the same boat 2 years ago, and was looking at X3 (F25) and Macan.......but ended up stumping up the extra for the X5 (F15).

Obviously, new X3 (G01) and just out X5 (G05) have moved the game on now, and the new X3 appears to be a big improvement on the old F series car. I would prefer something the size of the X3, but having now had my X5 for nearly 18 months, I'm not sure I'll be able to give up the big advantages the X5 has over the X3 when the time comes to change again - despite the significant price differential between the two.

My dealer was aghast at me not ticking the Pano roof option on my X5 order, as he said everyone wants that option, but I told him, I hate sunroofs and I'm buying the car I want, not what the next person wants.......plus I asked him how often is their workshop fixing Pano roof issues on X5 and he changed the subject quickly.... wink

Definitely tick the adaptive suspension option thumbup

Personally, I still don't trust comfort close because of the security issues, so made sure that wasn't specced on my order.

It's not very often I need the size of the RRS but quite often the 435i is a bit too small. My Dad has an X5 I can borrow if I'm really stuck.

Adaptive suspension is a good shout, my 4 series has it, but it's part of the M Sport Plus pack so that's covered.

All the other stuff I love about the 4 series are covered too such as high beam assist.

What are peoples thoughts on Apple CarPlay?

Depends what you mean by a bit too small, and needing the X5..?

For people, or for people and stuff, or for just carting stuff around?

If you mean the rear load area, I'm not convinced the X5 is that much bigger than the X3, if at all, as the load floor height of the X5 is much higher than the X3 (because of the under floor storage and split tailgate on the X5) whereas the X3 has a lower floor with normal hatch, and the roof line isn't that much lower than X5.
Inside space for people on the other hand and there is much more room for people in the X5 (this is comparing both old F series cars though, not the new ones)

I'm giving Apple CarPlay a go but only because from iOS12 carplay will apparently support Waze...

Carting stuff around mostly, bulky work stuff.

Should probably go and test drive it and check the size out. I've never test driven a BMW before buying, despite owning a fair few.

Just to bookend this thread - car is now with me, having been collected on Wednesday and taken to Autocurators for PPF and ceramic.
Got it home yesterday.

Only 100 miles in so far, but very pleased.
