Hi all not sure if this has been posted before so apologies if it has .
I’m looking at getting a f30 and I’m not sure what exactly you get with pro nav other than a big screen. Are all pro navs capable of playing dvd movies and if not is it possible to turn them into DVD players and also is there a difference between navigation package and media package ?
Any help appreciated cheers

It depends on the model year but generally pro-nav means prettier maps, split screen capability (e.g. maps on one side, direction arrows the other etc), 20gb hard drive for media, and an additional usb port.

You should be able to watch dvds by inserting in the cd slot but its pointless anyway because the second the car moves it switches off as a safety measure.

I have an F30 335d with BMW Professional Navigation (option ZNP). I can confirm that mine plays DVDs. I have just tried it, for the first time with ‘Wind in the Willows’. I have never used it before, I rarely watch DVDs, and certainly can’t see the enjoyment in watching them in a stationary car. More useful, and I don’t know if this applies to other levels of media players for BMW, is the ability to download, from a USB stick, all my iTunes recordings. Once downloaded, it will show the album covers as you scroll through, that is useful to identify the album you want.

Also, having used the ZNP ProNav, I would not want a lesser system with regards mapping and Sat Nav. The Real Time Traffic info seems useful and accurate (red on the map for stopped traffic, yellow for heavy traffic), although I tend to use my understanding of a particular road and continue if I know it is likely to clear.

Other than this, if you are getting an F30 (saloon), DO get split folding seats. I prefer the look of the saloon, but wanted folding seats (they are 40/20/40 split). The truth is, I got what was on the car as it was a pre-reg, but I had a choice of vehicles and I did check all the options out. Two options that were not on it that I wish were, are grey band at top of windscreen (I guess this can be added) and electric memory seats. It has heated seats and wheel, but the wheel heating is not necessary.
It does not have electric folding mirrors. However, I feel that with a wide body, the mirrors do not add much more width, and I feel the unfolded mirrors do help protect the wheel arch flares to some extent.

In addition you get the full suite of connected drive functions:

App integration (spotify works pretty well)
Remote services from the app (lock/unlock the car, send routes, locate the car etc)

Black panel display (nicer than the 90s special that comes as standard)

And if it’s an my16 onwards you also get over the air map updates (if under 3 years old/you’ve paid to extend it)
