Its only non scientific spots from facebook & social media etc but ive seen a fair few GTDs going missing, I’d certainly not go for one over a 3 series on the basis it’s less of a theft magnet.

There’s a lot of speculation as to what all these cars are nicked for, I’m not sure a lot of the scum nicking them know. I read that one ‘gang’ were getting £500 a car and that’s all they knew about it. I suspect the majority are taken for export & parts. I doubt many are taken for joyrides, at least not via the breaking in for keys method.

If you want a nice car, I think the best thing is to do it make it as unattractive as possible to nick. Or maybe a Octavia vRS? Even those aren’t immune though.

Ah yes I missed ‘the job’ cars.

So 335d touring is a good job car. Fast (ish), auto, awd.

A friend had his c63 estate nicked and it was eventually recovered in Manchester months later.

On joy riding, I can see s3 etc being appealing, but an F30 3er isn’t that kinda car is it?
That’s like nicking a Vauxhall Omega V6 or Ford Scorpio in the 90s.

Why would you nick a luxo family barge with a bit of pace for a joy ride?

Joy being the operative word.

I think I’d get more ‘joy’ imagining driving a fun car in my head, than actually driving a 335/340 hehe

A 340i would be just as good for a rag about by a scallywag as an S3.

I’d have imagined 135i/140i would be infinitely more nickable than the big heavy family car version?

And they’re starting to be common as muck.

I rarely see 335d/340i by comparison.

Had my 2016 S3 stolen after only 2 weeks on the drive. I replaced it with a 340i touring which I've owned 18 months now, albeit with vastly increased home security.

The S3 felt more agile, the 340i has the better engine, no surprise.

My 520d touring was taken from my drive in the night never to be seen again, parked next to my Cayenne S. very quiet country village, if your car is on their order list they will take it.
