Something like the below looks like a good car. The only trouble is the mileage is over 60,000. However I think it will be very hard to find one below 60k mark with the extras I want (reverse parking camera, 20" alloys, m sport).

Wondering whether BMW would likely pick up on a remap 535d and refuse a warranty claim?
If they identify it, and can link it to the issue then yes.

If its not relevant to the claim, then it would be ignored.

This is a useful thread for me, I have bought a 35k M135i privately and will be getting the BMW Warranty put on it - not too bad at around £610 with £100 excess or £487 with the £250 excess.

Just bought an 09 plate e91 with 68000 ish miles on.
Has full BMW history.
My quote from bmw for the warranty is £96 a month.
Keep ummming and arrrrring, but has to be worth it for peace of mind for the next 32,000 miles I reckon?!

Very helpful to know this, thank you. I think if I were to buy a 09 plate in an X5 form (with a similar mileage) then I would be looking at approx £158 pcm. I am like you in umming and arrring about whether to do it!

mine BMW warranty is £48 per month for a F30 335D - fully comprehensive £100 excess - for ref.

For tuned BMW's - any reputable tuner should have saved your original map and be able to return it back to original spec (now through the ODB port - they cracked the code for most engines)

I can’t believe people tune engines then try wangle their warranty back in.

BMW need to start doing more digging as I’m sure the tell tale signs are there... sadly the time an experienced tech would take to look is often probably more than just fixing things.

Mostly though it puts me off buying a modern (turbo) used BMW.

Yes great 400bhp from a tuning box, but shagged turbos by 60k miles when I might buy one.

If you take out the monthly option (i.e. not annual renewal) there is never a renewal per se so as long as you are below 60,000 miles when you start it, then the premium does not increase due to mileage.
Just to add however, my monthly BMW warranty has increased by 10% each year for the past 2 years - each time it's increased the letter has stated the age of the vehicle as reason for the increase (2008 E91 335i).

That said, over the past 3 years I've had a considerable amount of work done over several visits (replacement iDrive controller and head unit, replacement rear wiring loom and diversity antenna, blown head gasket, waterpump), so it may well be that the number of warranty calls has triggered the increase.

I’m with you on this.

If you modify your car fair enough but declare it to insurance companies and the warranty company and also when part ding it or selling it privately/advertise it.

Anybody bought a warranty after the manufactures one has expired?

What I'm asking is what's to stop you buying a BMW warranty if you notice that something 'claimable' is about to fail?

Nothing at all.

Mine was well out of warranty when I got it, as was my wife's. Contrary to others I wasn't quoted the earth, despite taking the warranty out after 60k miles, and the monthly premium has only increased in line with either taxation (it's insurance so subject to tax) and inflation. Age has never been stated. I've had the warranty now for 3-4 years I think.

Think I pay c£45/mo for Driveline cover on my N52 E91, that's '06 year and now on 109k. Personally I wouldn't bother with fully comp. and that's as someone that's just had to fork out for the electric waterpump.

Are you seriously asking that question? Trying to avoid a cost you are going to incur and you elected not to have OEM warranty to take the risk.

Utterly shameful behaviour

You have a car think something is going to go bang but expect

OP: I have a 2010 330d. Have had the BMW warranty on it and I've had a claim. It was seamless and there were no arguments about it.

Hahaha, yeah I get that.

It was just you seemed to start having a rant about it and not end what you were saying, like it blew you over the edge! wink

Just purchased for my M135i.

£380 with £250 excess, a whisker under 35k miles.

So that really means any warranty work (for it to pay off) needs to be greater than £630 a year.

Alternatively, he’s paying £380 for peace of mind. wink Under £35/month to not have to worry too much about something expensive breaking? I’d say that’s worth it...
