Bimmerprofs have a bit about the Nox levels with NOXEM installed on this page https://bimmerprofs.com/faq/ (q5).
If the NOx sensor/cat is faulty the car will only run in homogeneous mode and will not emit raised NOx levels due to the lower combustion temperatures.
