Now following with interest.

I paid a deposit on an AUC 535 yesterday. Supposed to be picking up on Saturday.
Only to be told today that it needs the EGR replacing. Quite why they didn't do it before putting it up for sale I don't know.

Must say I'm rather annoyed. First world problems.....
That’s what I’m tryain’t to get out of Stratstone; I know it’s subject to the recall, I just want a bit of reassurance that as it stands it’s not leaking. I’ll then return it somewhere when the parts supply improve.

Into the 3rd week without the 116d and had a call from Specialist Cars yesterdayto say they are still awaiting the parts. My question, how long do you estimate it would be before I get it back? The response was the rather vague reply (same as when it first happened), could be 2 days, 2 weeks or even longer.

Oh well, just keep ramping up the miles on the Vauxhall then.

It does appear that the cars are not checked over until they’re sold. When I kept pushing about it on the car I was looking at, they basically said once the sale was agreed, they’d get it in the workshop to check the EGR. Ultimately, I’m leaving it for now because the trade in value on my other half’s MINI is way too low, leaving us in a tonne of negative equity (we bought new three years ago).

Stratstone are really struggling to get the parts. Apparently 200 made their way over (to The uk) last week and they were allocated two.

Hopefully this will assist anyone receiving the letter for the first time or buying a car that requires a recall.

My 640d has been at my local dealer since 4th Feb. I booked it in with my local dealer after receiving the Recall letter, I requested a loan car so I waited about 4 weeks. I was told when I arrived that they will need my car for two days. One day to inspect the car, the part will ordered if required and it should arrive and be fitted the next day. Not at any point was I told there was a delay on parts. The following day I received a call informing me that the ERG required replacing and I was told that each replacement part is ordered to specifically to each VIN number. I was told that I would receive a call from BMW to arrange a replacement car for dealer loan car. I did not receive any call and dealer called me a day or so later asking for their car back. BMW then called me asked for my details and if in needed an automatic which I said yes to. Enterprise (who have been very helpful) then contacted me and offered an Insignia or a Crossland X. I opted for the Crossland which is not that bad, its brand new and comes with Apple Car Play. (full disclosure - my wife offered to drive it whilst I drove my wife’s car, she is very kind but I’m sure I will pay for it at some point!).

I have had very little contact from my dealer just he odd text message. I called but the my calls were not returned. Eventually I called and asked for the Service Manager who told me what I already knew and that there is no news from BMW. I have called sporadically and been told there is no update.

Anecdotally I have been told (by my dealer) that parts are starting to arrive more frequently and they are expecting things to improve further still in March, although they could be keeping me happy. They also told me that EGRs for 6 cylinder cars are arriving much slower. This week for instance my dealer said they had received 20 EGR units and only 2 of these are for 6 cylinder cars. I’m not sure if this is a result of there being more 4 cylinder cars on the road or not.

I have some work trips coming up, so yesterday I called Enterprise and was told that they have lots of other cars available but I needed BMW to approve “a small upgrade charge”. I called BMW and was eventually passed through to the customer service team. They told me categorically they will not upgrade hire cars unless they are under warranty (mine has just expired). I think this is untrue. I know someone who’s 330d has been at the dealer for 5 weeks. He has been making lots on noise on Twitter and was contacted by BMW given an upgrade yesterday. I did ask the person I spoke to if that was what BMW required to authorise an upgrade. I offered not to and save us all a load of hassle if they authorised an upgrade there and then. He wasn’t sure what to say…

Someone yesterday stated on Twitter that their 640d came back this week after 7 weeks away.

Hope this is helpful.

I’ve been looking at cars and found a nice 335d at Stratstone Derby which seems to fit the bill. Been to see it, drive ok but the recall is outstanding. I’ve been asking questions about it and the salesman is now ignoring me!

One would have thought that they’d try to sort cars they were selling. The whole thing does seem like a circus with the 6 cylinder cars facing much worse delays. The site at Derby was littered with customer cars waiting for the recall work to be done.
Stratstone will just want the car off their pitch. They will do the bare minimum work and spend as little time on the car as they can get away with. The recall will be the responsibility of the new owner. The last car I looked at on a Stratstone lot was in a disgusting state. When I queried why the car was being offered in such condition I was told by the salesman "We don't touch it until we have a sale agreed". I walked away and bought a far better condition, better spec'd, same MY, example of the same model - but with slightly higher mileage - from an independent just up the road, for less money than Stratstone were asking and point-blank refusing to budge on.

Update on mine. My 535d has been in for 3 weeks today. Spoke to them yesterday to be told still no updates. But apparently my car has been there the longest. I feel this is a load of BS. I've got to take the wife's 116d in Thursday hope the wait isn't as long as mine.

Received a call from my dealer on Monday, delivering good news that my car was ready!

330d 62 plate, been in since December 19th.

All good, apart from I got a mile down the road from dealer and loud bang sound. 'Drivetrain' warning, reduced performance.

They hadn't fitted the hose properly back onto the EGR Cooler, and they only do a quick drive around the block when they test drive the cars apparently.

30 mins later, they had rectified and said they will take cars on a longer test in future to avoid any other issues with customers....

Mine also had inlet manifold replaced, as it had been affected by the faulty EGR Cooler.

Very glad to have mine back, but has still been a disappointing experience to be on the receiving end of.

Best of luck to those who are still waiting, hopefully mine is a worser end of the scale at 2.5 months (inc. Christmas).

That’s great news that your 3.0d is out. Not heard of many others. Poor effort on the hose fitting though, very poor in fact! Mine is 9 weeks in today. Called to collect some stuff out of the car last week and joked we hoped it would be done for our trip to Austria in May. Gloomy face said he thought it could be 80% NOT. Feel helpless.

Jesus guys I feel for everyone at the moment that has been impacted by this issue.

I feel I got "lucky" with mine going when it did before this properly kicked off.

As an aside in regards to hire cars from Enterprise I have always had a BMW in place of my BMW (and mine had to get assist out to it when this kicked off for different reasons and I still got an F30 330D).

Mine will be 5 weeks on Friday. At least some people get a message or something about an update even if is to say no news! I don’t get anything and very difficult to get hold of anyone in service dept, don’t even bother calling back if I call them and leave messages. Last conversation was to say basically no point calling we will be in touch when it’s done and no idea when. It does seem to have been handled really badly and a lot of people are really pi##ed off about it.
Annoying that I’m paying so much finance / insurance on a car that I can’t even drive!
I did speak to customer service about being repaid my finance payments and was told definitely not. Bmw aren’t looking to contribute anything. Worth a try!
I’m not that bad that I’d give up the brand though like some people have said just annoying it’s such a long wait with no idea as to how long the wait will be.
If they could give dates even if it was 2/3 months at least we’d have a date to look to.

My 2014 330d was declared dangerous when it went in for the recall last week and impounded - but BMW are paying for me to have a 320d M Sport from Enterprise while waiting for a part. Interestingly, the coolant level warning light had come on the previous morning, although I could see plenty of coolant in the header and the warning did not reappear when I restarted the engine.

The amusing/scary thing was that when I was told I couldn't have it back I went back to the dealer to pick up some stuff out of the car. The nice young lady on the service desk said she'd bring my car round to the front so that I could transfer things but then came back looking sheepish and said she was wasn't allowed to even drive it that far! And the week before I'd done about 700 miles up to Scotland and back!
Phoned to book my car in to be checked yesterday, earliest availability for a slot is the end of next week. Jumped in the car this morning and got a coolant level warning. Yet to see if it will still be there at home time or how much coolant, if any, it will need for topping up.

Have abandoned the notion of a driving road trip to north Wales this weekend funnily enough.

My 13 plate 640d has been with the dealer since 31st Jan.
Called them today for an update and they still have no idea on when they can expect to receive the part. The lady I spoke to wasnt to forthcoming with turnaround times on vehicles they’ve carried out the repairs on already. She did however let on that they’ve still got vehicles in their possession that came in, in December.

I appreciate its not the dealers fault, that there’s a lot of us in the same boat and I’ve been given a hire car which minimises the inconvenience.
However I’m starting to feel increasingly annoyed at the costs I’m incurring as result of being sold what the manufacturer deems to be an unsafe product. Those of us who have cars in quarantine are still subject to depreciation on a car we don’t have the use of, as well as the costs of taxing and insuring the vehicle.

Mines a 2012 640d, went in 3 weeks ago. BMW Leeds

Enterprise gave me a 2017 Insignia Auto 1.6d its good enough for a motorway commute

I did ask about an upgrade, BMW said no, Enterprise said i could pay some extra and upgrade myself. I'm waiting on a call back to see what they can offer me.

I wonder how many cars are sat at dealers waiting for parts at the moment?

Any clarity about the time range of affected models, specifically the N57? Is June 2015 still valid, or does it apply to newer models too?

This ^^^

I'm kind-of hoping that the "production from July 2012......" relates to the actual part, rather than the whole vehicle. My X3 was built October '12.

My F31 320d went in on Monday for inspection. Was called few hours later to say it had a leak and had been impounded until new egr cooler arrived. 3 series BMW delivered to my door the next morning plus I already had a mini from the dealership which wasn't collected until today. Just been called to say car is fixed and will be ready tomorrow (also in for alloy refurb). Can't really argue with that for service.
