Mine went in last Friday and was told that it needed the EGR replacing and there were another 140 cars before mine at the dealership, therefore expect a 3 week wait. Got a call yesterday saying all done. Not sure if they’ve cleared all the cars before mine or whether the parts are supplied by chassis number and therefore pot luck.

Had a Hyundai i40 estate delivered to me last Friday evening which was OK for my commute and picked up my car this morning.

No issues apart from someone has reset the memory seats....

Just read this thread after getting a recall letter for my car (2014 F11 502d). The letter advised phoning BMW emergency services if I'd experienced any of the list of related symptoms (I have had drivetrain errors, coolant errors, had to top up the coolant, and also had various "low power" error messages).
The bloke at BMW emergency services suggested booking it in at my local dealership and BMW would provide a free loan car, however the local dealership has just said that it can't be done until 9th April, and that I should continue using it as normal til then. I asked about the replacement car and said theyll only provide one if it needs to be kept in longer than 1 day. Reading the above messages, that doesn't sound right. I'm using it on a daily basis anyway but I thought they'd be taking it straight in? Should the BMW dealership be recommending that I use it for another month? I've got numerous 300+ mile days to do for work between now and then. Not sure what to do....

My 640d has now been in Sytner Solihull for 2 weeks. Had no update so far but they did say to me 3-4 weeks so will give them a call next week. I've also grown slowly attached to my Peugeot 2008 GT Line diesel in the meantime haha. Maybe because I drive it like I stole it!

If you call BMW emergency service number on the letter and explain you have had the warning message come up, they will offer to recover the car from where you are, or arrange for you to take it straight into the local dealer. Enterprise are on the ball with this and will prob call you within an hour of the call to BMW to arrange your hire car.

Same here for me, daily long mway commute so didnt want to risk driving it...

Hire car now for about 3 weeks

However I’m starting to feel increasingly annoyed at the costs I’m incurring as result of being sold what the manufacturer deems to be an unsafe product. Those of us who have cars in quarantine are still subject to depreciation on a car we don’t have the use of, as well as the costs of taxing and insuring the vehicle.
This is the thing that’s starting to annoy me now, paying finance and insurance on a car that I can’t use. I am grateful to be mobile but I don’t pay all that money a month to drive around in an astra! Mines been away 5 weeks today and they still have no idea when I’ll get it back. Wouldn’t mind so much if I actually had a date it was coming back rather than an answer of haven’t got a clue.

If it hasn't been mentioned already, my dealer told me ladt week the X1 F48 is affected too. Ours is OK, but then it had a new EGR valve a year from new due to limp home so may have had a modded one then.

Do any of you Tech Guys know what the replacement EGR cooler mod is? Is it just a better manufactured ver of the faulty ones or a redesign?
Talking to pals in road transport and in big agri businesses, it sounds as if brands that went with EGR systems have had lots of problems compared to vehicles and machine going down the Add-Blu route. Some BMWs use Ad-Blu I think. No knowledge of those but would be interesting to hear about.
My 530d GT will be 10 weeks gone on Wednesday.

After my 640d went in for its recall i was told out of 6 that day mine was only one to "PASS" the recall.

I asked how they checked basic is part number check then boroscope to check?

How can some pass and some fail?

What are the criteria for pass & fail?

A friend's booked in her 13 plate F34 320d - big day is 30 May. Clearly not that big a safety issue if 2.5 months is soon enough!

Just picked my car up after 4 weeks and a day. Must say that was the best drive home I've had in a long time. Must say the wait has made me love my car even more.

Is this a part BMW Manufacture themselves or purchase from someone else? I imagine that manufacturer (if so) will be getting it in the neck!

It is produced by a company called Korens in Korea. Which is an irony, as the first problems were reported from Korea.

If you do a Google image search of the part number, you can plainly see "KORENS Korea" on the label.

Well, my loaner was dropped off yesterday, a '68' plate 435d MSport+, and that's mine just departed on the back of a flatbed [long story].

With it drinking a quantity of coolant previously, I'm fairly certain it will be getting held at BMW, then we'll need to see what happens with respect to a loan car for the longer term.

Probably better phone the BMW dealer actually, the 435d is meant to be going back to them tomorrow morning at 9:00am according to the paperwork.

I've just cancelled my booking as I have a holiday booked and I don't want to be going on it in some non-BMW litter (or, worse still, my wife's Balloongo). My X3 has been running fine, with none of the symptoms listed on BMW's letter, so I'll take my chances. Just in case, I'll take BMW ES 'phone number with me.

As of today, the next available appointments at Cooper Sunderland are May 1st. The call-centre person was unable to comment on whether the supply of parts has improved.
