The phrase worried me because it didn't say something like "as quickly as possible" - it just said "continue". But hopefully it was just clumsy wording.

We're talking about a simple little EGR valve, not a complete new engine or gearbox!!! If a supplier couldn't satisfactorily supply a company that I worked for we would find a supplier that could! Korens has supplied something that was incorrectly designed and is now incapable of ramping up production, or is unwilling to. Time to swap supplier! Sooner rather than later. BMW needs to manage the situation.
Based on my experience with someone who worked for a tier 1 supplier to JLR supplying axles the manufacturer was usually the cause of "most" of the issues in terms of downgrading things to reduce costs in terms of procurement rather than the actual supplier making the item for the line.

The other issue at "play" here is that it would have taken time for the components to be split as the EGR valve and cooler would have been one item to BMW originally. I think that took about 2 months just to get that all sorted.

Don't forget, these mayb be built to BMW design and spec. If Korens have followed the direction from BMW, then the faults could be down to bad design rather than bad production.

Telephoned for an update on my 5 20d and it was not good, the girl said that the part for my car is one of the longest waiting times as even Germany has no stock, she knew I was not happy with the hire car, and said she would ring me back

The Service manager telephoned me back stating would I pop in tomorrow and pick up a demo 5 30d for the duration. Now that leaves to believe I am in for the long haul as it may keep hire costs down. Anyway it’s cheered me up happy days, and a thank you to BMW Tamworth

I queried it with the service advisor today, why my car was done in a week, and others were still sat there for months.

He said he couldnt understand it, because the part numbers are the same, but they have to fit the part sent to them by BMW for the relevant car, and even though parts are the same, they cant fit my part to a customer who has been waiting longer.

In other news, the 2nd service on the 530d would have cost me £791 without the service pack. fk me.

They have to order the part using the VIN NUMBER of the car and then can only fit the part that is delivered and corresponds to it

Hyundai Tucson. Quite probably the worst car i have driven since an Austin Princess in the ’80’s
Swopped into a 3008; marginally better manual diesel. Which cock at Peugeot thought a touch screen for car settings was a good idea? Definitely wouldn't buy either. BMW have had my X3 3d for 5 weeks now. Immensely inconvenient. Infuriated doesn't get close. End of my love affair with BMW's.

Well while I feel for all of you still having these issues, I've recently bought a 640dGC and in the paperwork is the recall letter dated December 2018. Written on the letter, I assume by the previous owner, is '14th Jan' so I also assume it's been in to BMW and returned.

What I don't know is whether any work was done or if it was just checked. How can I find out? I don't know which dealer it went to.

All manufacturers get issues from time to time, impossible not to as they are really car assemblers with most of the components being 3rd party supplied.

I'm on my 11th BMW in 15 years and haven't had a major issue yet.

Well I am on the tools for my occupation and I see more BMW followed by VAG vehicles for issues more than any other brands inc GM & Ford which is surprising and not how things once were frown my daily for the last 4 years is a BMW but late models you can keep sadly scratchchin
Nah there is nothing wrong with them my experience over 500,000 miles tells me they're solid cars, all cars need looking after, sadly many people don't look after them and then wonder why things eventually break.

Click there, put reg in.

At the bottom there is a tab for outstanding safety recalls.

Hey folks, just looking for a bit of advice. Should the EGR valve be replaced as well as the cooler as part of the recall? My car has been in for almost 3 weeks, and when they were doing the diagnostics at the start, they mentioned the EGR valve was faulty, when I asked if that would be replaced as part of the recall, I was told yes, but now the parts are in and they're working on my car, they're saying I have to pay for the new valve. Does that sound right? Thank you!

Doesnt sound right is it 2.0d or 3.0d?

Mine is a 3.0d, they changed the cooler and the egr valve

Got it back yesterday after 60 days

Dealers have been very good so far, must be an absolute pain to deal with the extra workload

the valve can be coked up as a result of lots of short journeys. Mine failed a few months back and was replaced. The exhaust gas cooler is the subject of the recall. the valve bolts on but thats separate.

I got my X3 3.0d back after 5 weeks.

Well, that’s me got my car back.

12/03 - Phoned BMW emergency assist when it drank some coolant and gave a warning

13/03 - Loan car dropped off at my work
14/03 - Admin error corrected and my car collected from my work

15/03 - It landed in the workshop at Eastern BMW in Edinburgh, confirmed the cooler was borked, extended the use of the loan car

Text updated 2-3 times a week, part is still on back order etc

23/04 - Car ready for collection

In the mean time I had 4.5 weeks in a very similar spec to my own car 435d and the final week in a Sport trim 420i.

Based on a tech's statement to me all they are doing is quote "service, mot and QE [of EGR's]".

Equally interestingly he was as blunt to say that the EGR should be a service item due to the environment in which they operate .

I got my 330d back today after nearly 11 weeks. I wasn't told the part was in - just a phone call to say it was ready. There was no paperwork to say what was done and no apology that they'd had my car for 11 weeks - I know it's not the dealer's fault but I feel that some sort of acknowledgement on behalf of BMW would have been appropriate. Also, I'm not happy that the service indicator is lit up telling me that the brake fluid should have been changed last month (the warning that it was nearly due had not lit when I left it) - they must have noticed it when driving it into the workshop and could have phoned me and asked if I wanted it doing instead of me having to take it back again. But at least it's clean and seems unaffected by having been left for over 2 months.

I just need to put the summer tyres on now!

Incidentally, I'd forgotten how much better the ride of mine is on adaptive dampers (even in Sport) and 18" wheels than the M-Sport on 19" wheels.

I was given a copy of the internal job sheet/billed to BMW for about £1000 when i collected my car. They can prob email you a copy for your records to prove the work is done.

When having warranty work done I usually ask for a proforma invoice - that way I know what parts were replaced and how many labour hours were budgeted.
